I'll give you the code after I release my first vamp mod (maybe this sunday, or the week after that)

I would think it would be a courtesy to supply your source code. Derek made his source available so people could experiment and share their efforts with others. It seems a little selfish if you're not willing to do the same.
Of course, if all you do is edit one line or two, putting it in a post will do just as well.

The main reason i haven't shared is there isn't a reason to, anyone could do what I do, It's just a matter of ideas.

Think about it this way. Derek made a great sacrifice when he released the code. Tell the truth people, who plays normal Spelunky anymore? NOBODY! Exacty. It's sort of like that. Once you release your code, people can modify it and make it better and everyone forgets you and the new person gets all the credit. Therefore, it's smarter to release your code once you get SICK of your mod, or are completely finished with it

If your only programming for popularity, then the "people forgetting you" argument makes sence. I don't think you'll become very popular programming for spelunky tho. If I really like the game and just want to play, then I wouldn't care if people use my code to make "EVEN BETTER" mods... In fact, I'd *like* it if people out did me as then you could play their better mod! MMG: as for "anyone could do it", if code was given then people would not need to spend time doing it themselfs and they could focas on other thing.. End product? Better game in less time WITH COOPERATION!! ok, I'm in a bad mood today... Think I may be done helping you, gummy, with your problems.. Then you can feel really good about bragging because nobody will have given you all the code you need.

Totally agree with kinnik. I program to make new, fun versions for people to enjoy. I don't care if I get credit, but it'd be nice.

Credit is second, after ____, but it's always good to credit!
And I think this should be left to the programmer to decide. If he/she says NO, then don't ask

Derek didn't make a sacrifice, he made an investment. Think about it this way, if he hadn't released his code, making mods would be much, much more difficult. For the record, I have more time logged with vanilla Spelunky than all the mods I've tried combined, and that won't change soon.
I recall other open-source projects I've observed being released under public licenses that require all versions, including mods, to be released with their source code. Spelunky wasn't released with such a license, as far as I know, but I see it as practical.
In my own experience, making my code available made it easier for others to pinpoint errors and mistakes, and it fueled the collaboration effort as others submitted bits of code which I hadn't the time or skill to make. While you don't necessarily need to have publically available code for this to happen, and isn't a guarantee that it will, it can streamline doing so.
But yes, the modder has the final say in this case; even so, I stand by my suggestion, which you can freely ignore. I also suggest treating your projects as more than a publicity stunt, because that mindset appears incredibly conceited and shallow.

You wouldn't or recode the whole game.
