Let's Play Spelunky Overdose 1.7!
DAY 1:
My friend, who goes by the username of Aurora Dash, recommended me a mod he had made called Spelunky Overdose. I'm doing this blind, I haven't played it yet, but I'm really looking forward to it.
Starting it up now.
The title screen's changed from the normal Spelunky. Makes a nice touch.
Went into the start door. First thing I see is this red spaceship. Also, there's a weird potted plant at the top left there. Of course, I was super curious to find out what they do.
That's what they do.
On my second game, I noticed that I turned transparent blue for a moment when I entered the door.
Yeah, I died again to those things.
I also found out what the potted plants do. Most of the time, you just get a leaf effect, but this time it spawned a mantrap instead.
I would play more, but I really need to be off to bed. Night all!
DAY 2:
The title screen changed again when I started it up. It was really silly in my opinion. “Spelunuu” huh?
I really like these potted plants. I don't know why, they're just a nice touch.
I saw this white key on the same level as the normal key. I wonder what it unlocks?
Anyway, I died before I could find out. %$@*% red spaceships!
Decided to try the level 5 entrance to see what more this mod has to offer. Dark level. Puh.
The next level was a restless dead level. It had BLUE spaceships. They spawned yetis like the red ones spawned magma men. No thanks.
I tried the level 9 entrance next. I saw this cool looking pedestal first up. It turned me blue and transparent for a few seconds. I don't get the point.
They do look cool, though.
Even if they're glitchy.
Level 12 took me by surprise. Everything is like, blood-red. The music's different too – it sounds washed out for some reason.
Finally, I tried the level 13 entrance. It was also bloody with weird runic blocks, AND a dark level. Gawd. I'll investigate further tomorrow.
DAY 3:
Today is even weirder. This time the title screen was bloody!
Started from level 13. Almost no different. Bloody, weird runic blocks, washed out music, and a dark level.
I saw a glitchy blue cultist. It changed direction really frequently, and wasn't too dangerous. I don't get it.
To my relief, level 14 wasn't dark.
I played like 10-20 more games and couldn't get through the temple. I didn't see anything else weird. I'll come back tomorrow with a fresh mind.
DAY 4:
I just lost five more games starting from level 13. Those last few levels are HARD.
No more weirdness has happened so far. Nothing particularly interesting, either. Same stuff as yesterday.
My latest game is on level 15 now. Doing nicely. I wonder what he's done with the boss?
Oh my god. I reached level 16 and instead of a boss, there's this weird level which is simply a bridge of leaves over an abyss:
I can't make any more progress. What do I do?
I'm feeling really bad right now. I feel sick in my stomach. When I fell from the bridge of leaves, because that's pretty much all I could do, I landed in a weird level that looked like this:
You can't see it in the picture, but it looked like the blocks were laughing at me. What's that thing down the bottom even supposed to be? And that's not even the worst of it. I can't describe what happened next. I didn't take any pictures. But it's still etched in my brain. I can't unsee what happened.
One thing's for certain. I am finished with this mod. Done, done, DONE! This is attacking my skull from the inside out and I want nothing more to do with this mod. Aurora Dash, I'm going to kill you.
I feel sick in my stomach. I'm going to sleep now.

THOSE AREN'T THE RIGHT PICTURES. WHAT HAPPENED?DAY 5:
I'm still finding weird stuff going on. I didn't play the game anymore – I deleted it. Really weird stuff has happened to my desktop. I've worked out that something's corrupting all the screenshots I take into the images you see above. I think what's causing it is a file called “blaal.exe” which has appeared in my Spelunky folder. I reckon it's a virus but my antivirus program says it's a trusted file used by tens of thousands of people.
I would take screenshots of the damage, but they keep getting corrupted. I'm staying off my computer today.
DAY 6:
I'm not insane and I'm not losing my grip on reality. I've returned to my computer clearheadedly to work out what's going on once and for all.
A search of the folder where I stored my screenshots revealed this image which for some reason hadn't been corrupted. I don't know what it means and I don't know when I took it. Its file name is “forgottenplanet.png”. Does that mean anything to anyone?
A search of my Spelunky folder turned up four level files with foreboding names; “blaal.lvl”, “forgottenplanet.lvl”, “overdose.lvl”, and“waywardhorizon.lvl”. I deleted these.
