Necroing or new topic?

We as a people need to vote to see what we want.

Lets say some one wants to talk about about say, shopkeepers, but there is a really old topic about them. should he use the old topic or make a new one? what do you people think?

It depends. If it's a similar question that can be answered by the old topic, then redirect them to that and let them necro.
If not, let them make a new one.

What do you mean, lets think back to topic on shopkeepers.

It all depends on how similar it is. So if the original thread is on say, how to kill shopkeepers easily. But someone wants to talk about how to rob shops, this is pretty similar. If you kill the Shoppy, generally it's to rob him right?

However, if you want to talk about playing as Shoppy, this will not be relevant to killing them and should be in a new thread.

The real question is, are you really going to look through all the older posts to make sure there isn't one already containing your topic. Normally the answer will be no, but if they can be found with an easy search (like just searching "shopkeepers") then we should at least make that much effort.

I say Necro when it's reasonable, we will have hundreds of topics over time and if they can be condensed where applicable, that would be best.

2) there is a search button, you press it and type in what you are looking for, so you can tell if there is a topic about it.

Then s/he's at fault. Somebody should post the link for the thread in the one he created, and the creator woud lock/delete the thread when s/he is told to do so or has the information s/he needs.

Could be a good reason to use a traditional naming scheme, rather than trying to think of something clever. In the example I used, you would want the topic named something like Easy ways to kill a Shopkeeper and not BLAM! Now I got a Shotgun!. It's funnier, sure, but someone trying to look up a topic about "shopkeeper" is unlikely to come across it.
