Well yours is actually different, I just meant that I kinda suggested that. Because mine was a Hardcoded Mattock, a Random Mattock is what you suggested, and now that I think about it. A Random one seems better.

A while ago (version 0.999B) I made a 2 player spelunky, it's hard to code, and still buggy, but i'll upload it.

http://host-a.net/hasser/spelunky_coop_0_99_9B.exe

controls are:
WASD+ZXC&leftshift - player 1
HJKL+arrowkeys - player 2

Bear in mind it is extremely hard to add 2player, interactions with objects are the hardest bit.

I didn't bother downloading it.

So does this mean we WON'T get a internet-Spelunky
(but maybe a multiplayer Spelunky)?

But a better answer is we might get an internet spelunky far down the line, it would be hard for sure.

Anyone know about any chance of multaplayer in the 360 verson?

I can bet there will be Multiplayer in the 360 version, but who knows?
Dereks never mentioned it as far as I know.

Please, let's get back to the topic.

Svenski, mind if I decompile that?

EDIT:
Okay, to recap my favorite abilities so far:

Game:
Sacrifice other players on the altar?
Spike shoes make it so that you can no longer jump on others' heads to get to higher places.

Spelunker: Explorer, Jack of All Trades
A hobbyist adventurer, Spelunker has trained himself to use everything he can get his hands on. He is the only one who can use the exploratory tools (bombs and rope)

Damsel: Stone Feather
Years (or is it just days? It's easy to lose your feel of time in these deep, dark caves) of Spelunkers using and abusing Damsels has conditioned her to take more damage than anyone else. However, she still has dainty damsel arms, and can't deal as much damage as anyone else. She both deals and takes half the damage. Also, with as much experience as she has running away from sadistic Spelunkers, she moves somewhat faster than the others.

Tunnel Man: Professional Digger
With all of his hard work digging away at the caves, and all the steroids supplements he purchased with his cave profits (ripping off Spelunkers), Tunnel Man has exceptionally strong arms, and lots of experience in the caves. His melee attacks do double damage (That's SIX damage with the machete!), he throws harder (but not as hard as the pitcher's mitt), and his stun time is only half as long. Since he's a professional, mattocks have a lower chance of breaking when he uses them. But his overuse of steroids supplements has reduced his starting health to two.

Shopkeeper: Glass Cannon
Wishing to retire, Shopkeeper has begun his own quest in cave raiding that he so often "aided" during his days of selling. He has learned many tricks about the items he has sold over the years, but is not as strong as he was in the days of youth. He gets discounts among his fellow shopkeepers, receives exclusive bonuses with some items, and starts with a .44 magnum pistol (which knocks him out upon firing). But due to his brittle old man hip, he takes double damage from falls.

Questions? Comments? Concerns?

That sounds fairly balanced, but do you have the controls worked out fo the four player thing? I mean some can use multiple gamepads (I've got room for four of them luckily) but otherwise the keyboard would only be optimal when used by no more than two people. (though most have at least 2 usb ports, so 2 gamepads and 2 keyboard makes sense.) Plus how will character selction work and all that, as well as screen interface (the HUD more or less).  The ideas of How characters work should be finished after the technical aspects are done, unless they're already completed.
