..just thought that a pacifist run is next to impossible and almost totally luck based, since theres so many times enemies get killed by stuff around you.
I thought that might be the case, oh well. What about something like never using the whip (on enemies), I don't know, I'm bad at thinking of these things

So was it just random luck that you never got embedded in a wall? My understanding of the teleporter is that it just sends you somewhere in the general direction of where you aim it, and there's no way to go for any specific spot.

There's a bit of randomness to it but you can predict where you'll go. on the TIGforums someone posted a really good explanation a while back.

Actually I died more than 20 times killing the dice house guy and the Ankh guy. Those two were very hard to kill. The others were pussies.

I'd say ankh guy is hardest to kill, so get rid of him first, and then every one else will just run out of their shop, even the dice guy!

It this the post you're talking about? http://forums.tigsource.com/index.php?topic=4017.msg246020#msg246020That explanation actually makes the teleporter seem far more useful, and much less like unavoidable, certain death.

That explanation isn't entirely accurate though. I find I still die occasionally.

I hate to be the thread necromancer here, but I came up with a REALLY good one. Beat the game using NOTHING you can purchase from a store and or obtain from an altar. That means no bombs or ropes (not even your starting ones), and don't buy/steal/take from crates/loot from murdered monsters/dig up anything. Use only your whip, and whatever tossable, handheld, regular object you come across. Theoretically, it IS possible.

I've done a whole run without using the action key. So yeah, your idea without the whip.

How, exactly? Oh, and I almost finished the ball and chain! That's also almost my first win.

This is my kind of challenge.
And I hate to rain on a parade, but . . . why are either of you acting as though this is news? This is one of the most fundamental "challenge" ideas in videogame history, and certainly one of the most common ideas for a challenge that people have suggested for a limited-resources game like Spelunky. Now, it's a good challenge. I haven't even tried it yet. Don't get me wrong. But I'm more impressed by things like the ball-and-chain idea, which is a special challenge unique to Spelunky (or, well, other games that give you a similar crutch). --Delmion

So, responding to the thread in a positive way is implying that I am acting as if it was news to me?
