Two of the biggest hurdles are already comeplete - graphics and audio. That will help speed things up. I think you'll be looking at another 4-6 months, maybe longer depending on the spit and polish, and any Microsoft intervention (They review entries before they are allowed on XBLA)

He is updating the graphics (overhauling may be a better term), and I assume the music. Also remember that GM is not Derek's first go at game making, so learning another language while time consuming should be fairly smooth. Some of the games he made himself so far he states as being created to learn the programming language.
