Also I forgot that GameMaker had built in mouse aiming, I'm too used to using Java and C#

Well, I got exactly nothing done in the way of sprites, though I had fun messing with the source, and I got some planning done.

I was toying with the idea of medium res sprites but I decided against it.

Also, I was thinking that instead of paying tunnel/g -man to open new areas, there's going to be a save system, as I plan on having about the number of places that the actual HL2 has.

Hellz no. Or else I would just make my own program, instead  of editing this one.

What I was think is that there are zones like ravenholm, city 17, etc. and in each of these zones, there are different levels-types, like fighing a strider, or a vehicle level.

Really, I'd do this myself, but I really like how spelunky plays and I have no idea how to make a rouge-like.

I'm leaning more towards a HL2-centric experience than a RL one.

Plus I view those more as guide-lines than rules.

Could always do the Hack save, that deletes itself when loaded. Of course people could always save scum it too. *you can't tell but now my eyes are rolling)*
