Apologies but on retrospect I shouldn't have released this. Although nobody from Mossmouth has contacted me, if the devs wanted custom seeding available they would have put it in the game. And if they change their minds, they can add it to the game very easily. (If I did make any of them unhappy, I am sorry, that was not my intention.) Seedlunky HD will stop working anyway once the upcoming Spelunky patch is released. (Just to confirm, it still can't be used to affect the Daily Challenge, I was very careful of that.)

Damn! This is amazing! Nice job! I bookmarked the Mediafire link. That way if a mod or Derek takes it down I will reupload it asap.

1. An option to use (and automatically generate!) 64-bit seeds. This will have massive benefits for level uniqueness as I'll explain later (hint: Birthday Paradox).
I'm massively interested in this.
Does that mean there will be only 367 different seeds? Probably no.

1. What I mean is that today, with 32-bit seeds, there is a > 50% chance of seeing a duplicate seed after just 75k or so levels. This means that if 100k people play a single game of Spelunky every day, the chances are great that more than one of them are seeing the same "random" level! The math behind this is called the "Birthday Paradox" (see Wikipedia).

2. With a 64-bit seed, it will take billions of generations before a duplicate level is likely to be seen. This means that you will have a near-statistical guarantee every time you play you're seeing a unique level.

Another update... the return of random reproducibility! Come on guys, who wants to be the first to share that seed with a plasma cannon crate in 1-1?

Thanks... but unfortunately I just discovered some additional bugs. Crate contents and jar contents don't appear to reproduce reliably with a custom seed, even though level layouts, shop contents, and so on do reproduce. There is some stuff going on I don't quite understand. So treat this as alpha quality folks...
What item in crate and jar contents are only determined when you open them, not determined as soon as they're generated in the level.

It worked like that in Spelunky Classic as well.

It's possible they use a separate seed.

For those who want Version 1.2 that doesn't have the watermark, PM me.
Most likely going to be buggy or feature-incomplete, since that's the old version.

This is the coolest thing ever. I can kiss sleep goodbye tonight, thank you  Grin

But yeah, for some reason I can't alt-tab out properly with this running. It does work, but when I try to alt-tab no other windows will open including the program itself. Is this supposed to happen? It's frustrating to have to exit the game to change the seed.
