I was fiddling around with a custom level today and discovered, to my surprise, that the machete is pretty much the perfect anti-Cultist weapon: its great rate of fire and damage arc means that any Cultist who'd otherwise jump on top of you is instead met with an impenetrable wall of flashing steel, which is pretty effin' sweet. I ended up with a new level of respect for the machete, although I doubt it'll replace the shotgun as my favorite weapon anytime soon.
How about you guys? What's your favorite weapon, and why? Are there circumstances under which you find it more useful than others?

My problem with the machete is that it only actually hurts anything at the tip, where you actually see the slicing animation. When I tried to use it, I ended up taking damage from enemies that were too close to me to be hit by the machete, which was rather annoying.

I chose the webcannon for its multi-purposeness. It may not be lethal, but immobilization is often sufficient as long as you're not going for a kill run. And it can be used to jump an extra tile higher and bridge long gaps.

Telefragging is an option, right? So should the teleporter be added to the poll?

Pistol is my go, the shootgun is a little better, but just not as fun in my book and the pistol is better to see in the dark.
And telefragging while cool, isn't a weapon per say.

True, but neither is the mattock. If people want to vote for the Teleporter, who am I to stand in their way? What really surprises me is the Webcannon love. It's a tool with its uses, true, but generally I don't even bother to pick them up when I find them in a crate - there's usually something else I'd rather be holding. Maybe I ought to give it more of a chance...

I'm torn. The scepter is really cool, gotta love wielding godlike powers. But the good old shotgun is hard to beat. I'll go with the scepter only because it hasn't been acknowledged yet.
P.S. You might as well include the whip too, for completeness sake.

Does TM's hypermattock count as a mattock?

I would think, if the whip should be counted then tunnelman's weapon should be counted to.

Due to the fact that I have only use 3 of the weapons on this list, I will have to go with the cannon... It makes me feel like Spider-man!

Out of those listed, definitely the shotgun. Long range, can kill multiple enemies, and can one-hit kill most anything.
Mostly, though, I just like stomping things.

I'll just lump the two mattocks together, since I can't imagine why someone would prefer the original to TM's version. I don't hear a lot of people going, "So it's unreliable and you can't use it for jumping attacks? OH BOY!" An interesting fact: while TM's default mattock is unbreakable, so are mattocks he picks up. Crazy.

I only use the web cannon when I need to rob a shop early on; despite hearing of it's cannon-like properties, I still can't see how the bow is even close to useful. Lastly, the scepter may be godly, but the shotgun is so much easier to obtain, so it wins in my book.
