With the PC release of new Spelunky coming up, I decided to polish up and post my inventory mod that I had started a long time ago.

This adds a new feature, namely an inventory belt that you can swap items into.
Mod is here: http://www.mediafire.com/download/cadzk29x2vgonez/spelunky_InventoryMod.zip

While this does reduce some of the strategy of the game, I was planning to expand on the item system and create a more adventure/RPG style game out of the basic Spelunky engine.

It looks like that part will never be completed, but the inventory system itself can still be fun to use. And, I've included the source so it could be used in anyone else's project.

Controls: press any number key 2-0 to place the object you are holding into the slot. Pressing 1 will empty your hands (equips the whip). You can also hold down the normal item toggle key ('c' by default) to put the item away in an available slot. You can use the number keys or tap the 'C' key to select a slot. Hold down the 'C' key or use the number key to pull the item out of the slot.

Details on the changes are written into the game info.

I hope someone enjoys, and/or finds a use for this.

Looking forward to new Spelunky for PC  Smiley

Cool, I checked the list but didn't realize from the title "YASM" that it included an inventory feature.

I'll have to try that one out. It looks very advanced. Just from first impression, I would say that the only plus mine has over that one is that it being simpler might help make it easier to incorporate into other games.

Thanks for pointing it out, so others are aware of it if they view this post.

Just a tiny request, can you upload only the modded exe?
I just don't want to download the whole folder.

I prefer this over YASM because it has no changes to vanilla spelunky's mechanics. So this is for people who want an inventory but not the extra features that YASM has

You DO know that you can toggle those changes through the configuration menu.

All of them?
May not be all, but I'm sure many.

  • Skip Intro
  • Enable Inventory and no. of slots
  • Stack small items
  • Hold items on filp(hang)
  • Button to use doors ('Purchase' instead of 'Up', like HD)
  • Melee Containers(like HD)
  • Melee Items(like HD)
  • Climb Speed
  • Spring Shoes Effect (reduce fall damage)
  • Unlock Shortcuts
  • Dark Level probability
  • Ghost Timer
  • Random Ghost delay
  • Ball & Chain (from start)
  • Enemy multiplier
  • Trap multiplier
  • Smaller HUD
  • Parallax Background
  • Metric Units (for depth)
  • Enemies break webs
  • Wooden Spikes
  • Boulder Chaos
  • Frozen Region

You see it's a mod that resembles the HD version, rather than adding custom changes.

If you want to play vanilla Spelunky with inventory use Luxon5's mod. Not everything in YASM is optional.
