I was thinking, it'd be pretty awesome to see a co-op mode in spelunky. Even if it wasn't the main game, maybe a single extended level with competitive-coop gameplay. Obviously there would have to be balance tweaks. What do you guys think?

I can see it now, "MAN I NEEDED THE DAMSEL", "NO, I HAVE THE HIGHEST CHANCE OF DYING, LET ME!" "I WANT THAT" "I WANT THIS" "GIMME THIS" GIMME THAT" "GOD DAMMIT YOU KILLED ME" ... It'd be fun, I think it's a good idea, minus the damsels. :

Although I can't help ya for the XBLA. I planned on making a co-op mod once the source is released.

you gave me an idea for a race to the damsel mode. [she'd be running around, and smarter than your average. heavy platforming skills required].
I think in normal co-op the damsel would share kisses, as she is a filthy whore, or it would be random. I'm going to write my ideas down over the next couple of days and report them back when they're organized.

I wonder how crazy the CoG would be in co-op? Everyone lobbing bombs to and fro, scrambling to recover the most gold before the ground is blown out from beneath them. That would make a pretty good single level vs. mode.

I wish you could throw each other around, Chip 'n Dale style.
....and maybe the altar...?
That could end friendships...

Oh, Chip 'n Dale was infuriating! My cousin always threw me off the top of the power lines! I can see myself now being helplessly carried toward the dripping maws of a man-eating plant!

If Derek throws in some multiplayer modes, I think Spelunky is all I'll be playing for a WHILE... heh

In a game as deadly and punishing as Spelunky, regular co op would lead to one player watching the other for too much time. I think it would work better if both players shared health until one died, and then the other was left with 1 hp, or there was a way for player 2 to "steal a life" when you have more than 4 hp or something like that.
Or maybe some form of asymmetric coop where player 2 can't die could work.

Hm, would it be interesting if they could interact with each other in more ways than just throwing? Like standing on top of each other and stuff? So many ideas!

Personally I want to see co-op like Zelda 4 swords. You compete with each other for resources and while you can't damage your friends you can knock them out of the way, but to balance that there are a number of puzzle areas where you need your "friend" to get through. Its a great way to force co-op even when your competing. and YES its friend ending good fun.

Yeah... This sort of thing would be incredibly awesome. Although I can't help ya for the XBLA. I planned on making a co-op mod once the source is released.
I would look forward to that!!

I think damsels should go to the person with the most money.

I think the damsel should go with the person who has a weapon. Not the whip.
