Cavestory was a lot of fun but I never felt like playing a 2nd time. Also the mods are more of story changes than actual mods. IMO Spelunky wins because of replay value. Both have good art (cavestory's art is better) Both have great music (I prefer Spelunky Music) And Spelunky has better Platforming physics

Cave story for the story and soundtrack.
...Spelunky for its brutal and unfair gameplay, Sometimes I like the abuse. c:

I prefer Cave Story. In fact, it's actually because of it and NetHack that I'm into Spelunky.

Spelunky. It's a better game because it actually has replay value. I actually feel a huge need to play Spelunky again, unlike Cave Story. I never feel like playing that game after I already beat it.

i love both cave story and spelunky. They're both fun and hard, but spelunky is in an "open" world, but cave story has missions and objectives. And both have guns!

I've played both games, and it was a tough decision, but, they're stronger in different categories, but ultimately Spelunky is better, in my opinion. Both are AMAZING games though.

And some of the remixes. Like "Never Die", a remix of "Last Battle" from Cave Story.

If compared to the HD version, Spelunky has better music IMO.

I like the old Spelunky music better than the new Spelunky music (both soundtracks are great though). Overall Cavestory music is better IMO
