It only appears if it's the first time you play or if you delete your settings files/registry keys. I did the latter for testing purposes. In the original, the hint hand wouldn't appear if you let the intro run without interruption. I think there was another instance where it didn't appear as well, but I forget what the conditions were.

Anyway, it's a small fix, but helpful for new players.

I'm running Mountain Lion and anytime I try to launch Spelunky it says that it can't because it is damaged and offers to move the file to the trash.

What's going on? I get this with the 1.3 posted here, as well as the older 1.0 port.

Edit: It appeared to be the security setting preventing "unidentified" developers and non-App store apps from being run. Hadn't encountered this before but it seems to work anyway.

Gamemaker:Studio standard edition costs the same amount as Gamemaker 8.1.

THAT version can export to both PC and Mac.

For anyone else having this problem, the following guide explains how to change the necessary setting in Mountain Lion. I hope that helps.

Umm 8.1 is $25... Studio is $49-499

I think GM8.1 WAS $25 dollars when it came out.

But not anymore, I think.

Still, the price is cheap compared to $500.

Hey guys, if anyone has access to it, could we get a linux port of Spelunky now that game dev has an Ubuntu exporter?  I'd be ever so grateful! Cheesy

Gamemaker is getting a linux option. When that happens a port will probably be made.

I'm wondering if this guy's ever going to port this to GameMaker:Studio (where there's going to be an option to port the games to Linux).

It might be easier to copy code that fixed new stuff from here, and add it to the community update GM 8 source, then port to GM:S, since idyll had to back port the game to GM 7 to get GM4Mac working.

At the moment, we need to wait for an audio extension, hopefully caster, to be ported to linux. Plus I have no freetime!
