Knytt, and Knytt stories are great exploration/puzzle type games. Much more laid back than any of those, but I consider them among the best. Also Knytt Stories has a level editor and quite a few really good user-made levels available.

They're pretty much all right here...

In all seriousness though, I've been playing the beta for Dungeon Fighter Online and it's really awesome. Actually, it's made by the Maple Story guys. It's a free to play MMO that doesn't have any purchasable content yet. Unlike other MMO's, this one is a side scroller that plays like Golden Axe. It's great fun, you should check it out.

Dwarf Fortress. Its got such insane depth and detail (yesterday I learned that my dwarves can throw parties o-o)  but its veeery difficult to get into due to the extremely confusing interface... although apparently its still considered to be in ALPHA which i simply cannot believe...

oh also some people apparently dislike ascii games...  *rolleyesshouldbehere*

Wow, I saw a brief thing about Dwarf Fortress a while back when looking for RLs. It looks as if it has come quite a long way, looks really awesome I'm downloading now! Here's a link too, for lazy people-
By clicking this link you agree that you are indeed, lazy.http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/

Edit: I still haven't played this but watched through the tutorial videos. I have to say, especially for a game in alpha, this is the deepest, most ambitious game I have EVER seen anywhere in my life! Also, should be mentioned there are graphic sets available if you just can't stand Ascii graphics for some reason.

Ah, thats kinda deceptive. At the moment the only things that can have proper replacement graphics is actual creatures and dwarves; all objects and terrain still has to use a characterset. You can get nice looking charactersets that have some extra details but too many characters have multiple uses at the moment to help those who can't 'read' ascii. Next release (whenever that may be) should have extra support though.

Looking through my games, I thought I would mention these two:

Iji- action platformer, fairly well-known but also very good so it deserves a mention here. Follow link for in-depth description and download http://www.remar.se/daniel/iji.php

Trilby: Art of Theft- This was part of a series by Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw. While his other games are generally point and click adventures, this is an action-theft game. The point is to steal as much as you can without being caught and I think it's fairly well done. Think "Exit" but much better. Anyway here's a link to that download, and if you want to find his other stuff just look up Ben Croshaw games, as "Yahtzee" will probably give you results for the board game. http://www.escapistmagazine.com/content/games/yahtzee/artoftheft

I need to point out Tower Of Heaven, short relatively difficult platformer with a 3-color limitation. Awesome art style, awesome platforming and especially awesome mood.

* ADOM

www.adom.de

It's a roguelike that I've been trying to beat for nigh a decade. Ascii graphics but deeper than any Dwarven mine.

* Crawl: Stone Soup

http://crawl-ref.sourceforge.net/

Another roguelike that's more traditional in it's dungeon-crawling. Has a graphics version that makes it just awesome.
