Firstly massive fan of indie games  ie Aban Hawkins & the 1000 SPIKES, VVVVVV
VVVVVV super meat boy, Rick Dangerous ect
I am not a game dev just a lover of games.

Here is my problem:
the game is difficult no complaints from me.
With one exeption: tunnel mans request on the ice caves 'the key from the mines'.
I feel that people should be aware of this game trait. $80000 would have been ok.
I am against the idea of changing a game after release but this is truly an absurd request.

I feel like spamming every forum and letting them know, maybe I will, maybe i won't. This is the FIRST time I have ever written something in a less than positive note  (not being a Whiney bitch) about any indie game. APART from this the game kicked ass.
It sucks that my view on this game has been suddenly distorted from a game that requires skill and dedication to a game you shouldn't buy unless you have 10,000 hours and autism. The fact that meat boy showed up in this game now just makes me angry, smb being a fav of all time because it was skill not random luck. Because the level won't become dark and then be swarmed with bats. I don't want to across as some guy who I can't hack a difficult game but seriously...

Sincerely
guy you can write off as some kind of hater but is anything but.

Dude, have you tried it? It's not too hard at all, only took me a few tries.

Once i'd deciphered what this guy was trying to say - he could use a little punctuation - I can happily say that this post is one not worth reading. Wink

Also oh noes someone on the internets is annoyed! Now all those 80%+ reviews are useless, since some random person doesn't like the game. NOOOOOO!

I'm a drama queen because I think this task is way to difficult?
It's an opinion. This IS ludicrously difficult.
The leader boards have sales at 10,000. How many can do this is not the point of the game but how many people on the planet have the ability?

Ahh, I'm so mad at myself! On my second try at going for this challenge, I accidentally left the key at the exit in a Jungle level. I left the key there to go get the damsel. Once I took the damsel to the exit, I on reflex pressed RB and entered without the key!!!

So I thought to myself... 'This isn't so bad, I wasn't going to make it anyway'. Well, I did. I made it to the end of the Ice Caves.

To the original poster - reconsider and have a go at the challenge. When going back to the mines or jungle now I rarely die, and Ice Caves I have improved so much at recently (to the point of being able to do them first try on my second key run).

That's the beauty in this game I feel - I have been taught so well without even knowing, that I have been able to go back and do levels that I used to struggle at so much. For every person you tell to not buy the game, I will be telling one person to absolutely buy the game. So you might as well save your breath and give Derek his crew at least some credit for their 2 years of hard work.

Ok now we are getting somewhere. Thanks for this, great post. I am not saying I'll go and bitch to everyone about this game, I am all about the indie games. It just this game could have got more people into hard platformers with great art Instead it feels like its going to leave a trail of anger instead of frustration.

It took me about ten or so tries to get the key to the end of the ice caves. It is difficult, but it is far from impossible. Playing the game more DEFINITELY makes you more skilled; you develop better reactions to common threats, you learn how to more effectively use your gear and equipment, you get a better feel for movement and aiming mechanisms...

What it all comes down to is that the game rewards effort. If you try to get something done - if you honestly invest yourself - you will get it done. The last shortcut in the game is kind of a big deal, and you're supposed to work for it.

Really, experienced players can do crazy stuff like beating the game start-to-finish in under eight minutes. If you actually put forth the effort that Spelunky asks for - the effort that practically makes Spelunky what it is - then you will find yourself easily vaulting over the obstacles that you used to imagine were insurmountable.

This game is more challenging than any recent game, for sure. But remember all the old games in early 90's  Wink

Spelunky has a VERY particular kind of gameplay. Some people, like most of us here, love the challenge and will always have that "just one more go" kind of mentality, but some others may not. I'm sorry this game isn't really calling out to you, but don't deprive others the experience just because of your feelings. I honestly don't even see what's wrong with the key runs, its a totally optional challenge.

I hope you can change your mind about those key runs. My advice to you is: whenever you die, think to yourself "could I have avoided that if I really wanted to?"

Are you fucking kidding me? The challenge is what makes the game great and if you are going to bitch and whine about Spelunky's difficulty, then PLEASE throw yourself into a wall filled with poison tipped spikes, and as you fall in convulsions because your nerve system is being messed up by the poison, the spikes drag through your skin creating a bunch of painful scabs. It starts to rain citric acid and it gets into the wounds, dissolving the tissue and going deeper and deeper. A rain of maggots come with you, and if you are a girl, you get the blue waffle from it.

No! It's NOT a bit much! This little shit here dislikes Spelunky for bullshit reasons and is going to tell people not to buy the game! I actually think my reaction was an UNDERREACTION!

I'd much rather bring the key than pay 200,000 ;ole the pc version. And this TINY factor makes you hate the game.
