I still haven't defeated the "Best Ending..." I keep dying over and over... Like "Spelunky..."
Yeah, ditto here. You must be very precise in the last leg of the game. One thing I really don't like in games is the requirement to memorize an area to have any chance of finishing. Though, I guess if you had god-like powers of reaction you could get through on one try. So, Eguee, how long did it take you?

The Sacred Grounds are tough... But what I dislike more are the tiny details that are required to get there. Most of them are so incredibly random and have little to no explanation as to way it ultimately changes your course, that I had to eventually give in and locate a walkthrough.
However, other than that small gripe, I really love "Cave Story." Cheesy

There should be a cross over game between Pixel and Derek-Yu. It could be called Spelunky Story! we could even get La-Mulana into the mix and call it Spelunky Story-Mulana!

I'm just taking a frustratingly hard game, putting robots and Mimigas in it, and making it 10X more frustratingly hard. All 3 games in one!

I utterly adore this game. Odd that it isn't refered to as a metroidvania more often, It doesn't have that much of an open layout but its still probably one of the greatest examples of the genre outside of, y'know, Metroid or Castlevania.

And yes, i'm soooo sick of people saying that everything has ripped off cave story in the indie world, even The Underside is unique enough to not be called a rip off in my eyes.

It's more directly like Metroid alone than Metroidvania, especially the health upgrades.
And I have to admit, seeing Underside the first time I really thought it was just a CS hack. The HUD, combat, and play style are quite similar. It wasn't until I played through the demo I saw it's uniqueness, and it is quite good. I still think it's funny though, that he used Pixtone for the music.

Speaking of CS ripoffs, I tried to make a Knytt Stories level using Cave Story tiles. It uh.. wasn't well received.

AAH, everytime Cave Story is written as 'CS' I read it as Counter-Strike. And I haaatteee Counter-Strike!

(well largely just the community and the map rotation, the game itself is pretty ace)
