If you could adjust the frozen zone to where it covers the whole level could you still move?

I have an extremely nerdy and highly technical answer for that question, but I know it's just a joke, so I won't indulge it unless you really want me to. Tongue

Ya, it's in XBMC settings (System > video, I believe). It's such a silly thing.. XBMC just has trouble restoring its screen with a bunch of programs. It seems like the "Use fullscreen window instead of fullscreen" works better with the majority of programs, maybe not spelunky though.

Didn't have a chance to test last night, was too busy trying to get my AC working.

Ok, I found that setting and tried both ways. Works ok for me - minimizes XBMC on launch and restores to full screen when i quit.

I love and hate XBMC, the menus and navigation I think are generally terrible, but there are so many slick addons and skins and customization options.. getting everything to work the way you want is a nightmare.

Probably, but you would have to find another way to do it.. the term Frozen Region is misleading i guess because it suggests everything is just paused, but it is really deactivated. So...there is nothing to see (other than tiles/backgrounds), and nothing for the player to stand on.

I think the reason the Frozen Zone exists is because GM doesn't track solids accurately when they're off-screen. Like, objects will fall through them if they stay active out there, so they're all set to only move when in screen-view.

Actually,  the frozen zone's only functional purpose (beyond freezing things) is to prevent lag on older computers. Not sure if Derek Yu had any other reasoning for it,  but the game runs perfectly fine with it removed on a fast computer.
Spelunky doesn't use GM's (not very flexible) built in solid system anyhow.

As for the OP,  gamemaker's graphics rendering code is pretty horrid and has different issues on different hardware. If windowed mode doesn't mess up your setup, a stretched window covering the whole screen might work.

Edit:
See my next post.

I made a soft fullscreen hack from the Spelunky 1.2 source code. Borderless window that scales up to any resolution, doesn't change resolutions or enter fullscreen or anything. Try it out and see if it works for you!

Almost worked perfectly.. except when exiting, it gives an error which you need to "Ok" before resuming XBMC...
