Hello there!
I am Starman, and I have a little problem unlocking the Changing Room. I heard this was supposed to be the easiest room to unlock, but...

There will not always be a total of eight Damsels spawned. You can run the entire game searching all corners, but only find six Damsels. And that is if you can save all of them. Sometimes they can be embedded into the ground where the Spelunker cannot reach her without bombs, and then it is a matter of placing them, for it will be a 'them', in a way that doesn't kill her.

Furthermore, you need to search every corner of the map before you can be sure there isn't a damsel, expiring numerous bombs and ropes in the process.

Then it comes to the 'Kissing Booth'. Obviously you don't have enough money to buy the Damsel, so you need to rob them, and it will be a 'them', getting yourself a nice bounty on your head in the process, if you can survive running away with his item that is ( I just realized I can buy kisses until I am broke and then steal her though. Thanks! ). However, if you do this, or any other form of mayhem in stores for that matter, you will have problems getting the Damsel from any future Kissing Booths.

If I get a surplus of Damsels early on, I will probably not have many of the items I usually am dependent on in later levels ( and inverse, meaning I can't visit the Black Market ). If that isn't the case though, there are many more opportunities to screw up and die ( spear traps, spike-pits ( dying by trees, anyone? ) bottomless pits... ).

Usually I get the feeling that it is likelier for Damsels to spawn early in the game, which is why I don't continue a game where I don't get at least three Damsels in the first Area. Any other, perhaps better tips for getting Damsels?

My record is seven Damsels, and one exploded, before finishing the game  Cry

You are correct about not all games having enough damsels to unlock the changing room, however you don't have to waste bombs and ropes to search for them.
They make a unique sound so all you need to do is wait and listen.
I'm sure that around your fifth-ish victory you'll get it.
Good luck and have fun. Smiley

Thank you! This is extremely helpful.
Right now I have 7 damsels and am on level 9. I have 5 bombs, 3 ropes and goggles.
Hopefully I will be able to make it this time.

Also, "explode" might not have been the right word. She was caught in an explosion.

Edit: Yes! I got the eight Damsel!
Thanks everyone for your help!

If you steal a damsel without killing the shopkeeper, he will only be mad at you for 1 level. This goes with stealing anything. Also please don't leave the forums

That's kind of a problem when they're already angry because of a trapped chest Undecided
One blew a shopkeeper up. Next level one came out of a shop near the level exit, jumped on my head and allowed the other one to shoot me.
Into spikes.

Damsels will call for help, but for some unknown (or unexplained) reason the stereo is backward. Meaning if you hear the call from the left, she is actually to your right in-game. (mine and some other mods fix this)

Other than that just keep trying, eventually you will get it without even noticing, thought the prize isn't all that great. Tongue

-just realized Nathan already made my second point about not killing Shoppy

Thank you guys a lot!
I also kill the shopkeepers. I can't help it, they are just so whackable.

I managed to complete the time challenge as well, meaning I have finished all challenges and unlocked the Tunnel Man. Amongst all the challenges, getting gold was the easiest and saving Damsels was the hardest. Killing stuff came quite naturally for me, but I had some problems with the time challenge, though at least I could conceive how I would beat it.

And now to complete the game with Tunnel Man!

Although I didn't get the Stars Room on my first try, I did not have to exert much effort to get it.
Some enemies can be really pesky, like the Spider, the Giant Spider, the Frog ( and Fire Frog for that matter ) the Vampire, the UFO, the Hawkmen and the Shopkeeper. On top of that, all enemies are at least a potential nuisance. You also often end up not having time to deal with tougher, stunnable enemies. There is, however, a cure for all this; the Shotgun.
Unlimited ammo, far reach and spread and massive damage enough to kill a Shopkeeper with a single shot ( if you get a clean shot that is ). Once you have this, killing a sufficient amount of enemies will be a triviality. All you have to do is point it on any enemy and shoot. Dodging is practically futile ( although you might still get some problems with the Shopkeeper. )
A good way of getting the Shotgun; kill the Shopkeeper. My favorite way of doing this is to leave a bomb right by the entrance, grab any item and run for it, jumping and ducking behind the nearest wall. The bomb will go off right under the Shopkeeper's feet, leaving him a burning pile of his former self. Then you take his Shotgun and all the other items in his shop. Of course, you may need to face another Shopkeeper at the exit of the next level, but luckily your Shotgun will take care of that.
I also think that it actually becomes easier to deal with the Shopkeeper as the game progress:
Area 1:In order to kill the Shopkeeper you need the Shotgun or a bomb. Alternatively you can lead him into the Frozen Region where he can't return to blow your brains out.
Area 2: Same as in Area 1, pretty much, except there are more and bigger Spike-pits, Spear-traps and man-eating plants.
Area 3: Bottomless pit. 'Nough said.
Area 4: You get the Scepter, and dealing with Shoppie becomes a triviality.
Another important thing to remember is to take your time defeating the boss. He spawns enemies that you can kill easily with your Scepter. The longer you wait, the more enemies he will spawn.

So there is that to look forward to.

As for the Moon, you need to complete it in time. The important thing to do is run, and hope you won't get killed in the first Area by arrow-traps. The difficult thing about this is that you won't be able to collect treasure, so if you want something you need to steal it.
However, you should not ignore boxes that are ripe for the picking. They are worth their weight in gold, ( but fortunately does not weight like gold ) and are natural time savers later in the game. By the time of the third Area, you should be able to complete them as if they were Area 1 levels. By the time of the fourth Area, you should be able to easily acquire the Scepter and bomb your way to the finish. By the time of the boss you should still have enough bombs left to rapidly explode your way to the lava pit, and trick him into following you.

I hope that is helpful.
