I'm gonna go ahead and assume everyone knows at least what Silent Hill is and skip the explanations.
So I had been watching Silent Hill LPs which made me hafta play. I sucked at the first, but already finished it before, then the HD collection came out and it was like a sign from Silent Heaven.
Anyway, here's where I wanna talk about Silent Hill, like all about it. (may get lengthy sometimes) Likely there will be some spoilers so be warned now *sound of sirens in background*
Finally I realize why SH2 is so highly praised, and often seen as the favorite of the series. Like the first, it does a good job of setting an atmosphere, lonely and desperate. It also feels more realistic bopping around town wasting time when you are only half-expecting to find something at your ultimate goal, opposed to trying to find your missing 7 year old daughter! I think the first games story is a little more interesting, but that focuses on Alessa and the cult where SH2 focuses on James (you) and his memories of his wife which makes it more "about" your character I guess.
The HD collection also adds the extras that were previously in special editions like the side scenario: Born From A Wish, and one(?) extra ending as well as new voices which were fine, but then the old ones still hold up well too.
Being that there seems to be a big draw to the Chzo Mythos here recently, I wonder if you guys played the series? If you played the newer ones, forget them, you need to play the first 3, they are the real Silent Hill. So if you did, or not, talk about it here.

Assume away. I don't know what it is, but who cares? Certainly not me. What's the age restriction? (Need to ask, despite the fact that I'm allowed to play Dragon Age: Origins since last year)

Oh you don't know? Well it was kind of Konami's answer to Resident Evil in the beginning, but rather than survival horror, it's more psychologically terrifying. I believe they are all rated M in the US (18+), but given it's nature I wouldn't be surprised if it's rated more harshly other places, maybe banned? :O Why there needs to be a rating above 18 I will never understand.
First one was on Playstation and 2, 3, and 4 were on PS2, plus one or two after that I think. Really up to 3 are the core series though like I mentioned before. If you can run a PSone emulator try it out, but play it in the dark alone for the best effect. heh heh heh

In the dark, I can't see the keyboard! The only emulators I use are the DS and GBA emulators. Anything else will take forever and a half. Thus I am unable to try it out. But, I'm able to play Dragon Age: Origins since last year. And it's 18+ and I turned 16 on 25 February this year. And now this post is going O for off-topic...

Well I believe the second (and third it seems) was actually released on PC as well, may be a copy floating around the internet somewhere. Actually, now I wanna find it for PC...
And Mars, I think that game is kinda up your alley with the evil gods and oppressive badness.

Yeah. I always thought of Mars to be the retro RPG gamer type.

Yeah. I always thought of Mars to be the retro RPG gamer type. I do like other styles of games, and it's not violence that bothers me, but gore mostly

I only have a problem with real blood, not video game blood. But I hate FPS-style games...

Ok, so I guess no one is gonna play these amazing awesome games... Anyway, I finally finished the third in the HD collection despite it's every effort to stop me. At the final door I was missing one puzzle piece so had to backtrack a bit. I get back and decide to save despite a 10 minute difference from leaving that room. Lucky thing I did, on the other side of the door was a cutscene.....which never started. Controls were non-responsive so I had to turn off the system entirely, reload, go through the door again. After that cutscene is a little part you play for like 30 seconds, I didn't know what to do so I died. Reloaded, skip the cutscene, play the short part, then another cutscene. After that....it froze again, power off, reload, through door, skip cutscene, small part, second cutscene. So by the time I actually fought the boss and finished the game, I was completely apathetic. I'm like, great who cares, just end all ready. Totally ruined the ending.

The HD collection has a number of bugs, SH2 played fine, but 3 was kinda choppy. My friend had the same problem with 2 though, and there's lots of people with similar issues. I played through it again last week and it crashed while I was shooting something. But I still got my Princess Heart costume!
