Well, I translated Spelunky 1.2 into German and thought I could share it with you. Because, why not? http://www.mediafire.com/?6q4zznhnn1kfa3hIncluded files: spelunky_de.exe (+source) config_de.exe (+source) readme_de.text Not included: stats.txt (is translated back and forth automatically after playing) Screenshots: I can't promise that the translation is perfect, but it should definitely be good enough. On the other hand, if anyone finds a serious mistake or something (you probably have to know German for that), I am always happy about feedback. If you want to know why I did this, just ask and maybe I'll think of some excuses reasons.

Awesome, I mean, I doubt any of the forum users will need it since I'm pretty sure we're all english-speaking (except for one who I think is french and another who was from somewhere in africa) but it definitely opens it up to a larger audience and you're great for that.
Now we just need a Japanese translation.

I made a reply, but it didn't go for some reason.
It was more or less:
Nice avatar Gorm, whats it from?
This doesn't really help me, but you should post it on some german sites, I would like everyone to be able to enjoy this great game

That's me! I'm from South Africa! On topic: I would ALSO like a Japanese translation. EDIT: The Japanese DO know Spelunky, as proven in this video. EDIT2: It'll be quite difficult to translate this into Japanese due to the way GM8 handels text, but to my knowledge GM 8.1 has some Unicode support (that may or may not be complete, but I think it's possible to translate into Japanese this way).

Actually, a translation project would definitely be something awesome. I'll put some thought to how it might be organised some time.

That's me! I'm from South Africa! So am I. On-topic, this is one way for me to improve what little German I know. Thanks.

Actually, facilitating more translations is a great idea. I'll see about externalizing all the strings in 1.2 so that they can be loaded and changed from "language.txt" files.

If I understand correctly, that means that anyone can make translations by editing that file, right?

Seems to be the plan, but I don't think it's done

Yet. Once it's done, I will be able to try making an Afrikaans translation, although I don't think Spelunky's engine can support letters like ê... Oh well, then I'll just make it an e.

It can use that symbol without the underline. I had to use a lot of weird letters and symbols to make TLS' extensive level editor work, so you'd be surprised just how much unicode it can handle.
