I checked out Famitracker, but I'm too visual to set it up by the notes themselves. Something like Pxtone is 'easier' for me to use, but I still seem to need a real instrument to get anything that doesn't sound spastic. Anyway, was just curious.

Some generic awesomeness from Clockwerk, an Aussie guy who's been teaching me sound design.  Grin

This. Is. Amazing.
To quote from that page: Written to celebrate the beautiful and forward-thinking gaming experience that is Superbrothers Sword & Sworcery, this arrangement weaves together 7 of the pieces from the soundtrack and is my love letter to the folks who reminded us of why gaming is the most exciting medium out there.

My Chemical Romance is pretty awesome. I don't know if they are considered mainstream though.

One of my favorite songs by them: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=05iMoYyA1GA

MCR is pretty mainstream, but I like them too.

Not sure if Death Cab for Cutie is mainstream or not, but I do think they are. Most of my friends know them and I hear some of their songs on the radio and in stores.

But yeah, Death Cab is brilliant. I suggest listening to their songs like Marching Bands of Manhattan, I Will Follow You into the Dark, and Soul Meets Body if you're sad or need something new to listen to.

MCR is pretty good. Smiley
However, I never openly admit this, because all the damned fan-girls drive me nuts. >_<

But yeah, I've been listening to Sabaton lately. These guys are a Swedish power-metal band, but what makes them awesome is the fact that ALL(save, like, two) of their songs are based of war history!
Some of my favourites are:

40:1 - About the Battle of Wizna, which occurred near the beginning of the invasion of Poland during WWI. In this case, 40:1 is referring to the ratio of German troops (42200, complete with over 100 howitzers and well over 300 tanks) to Polish defenders (720). The actual ratio is something like 58:1, but that hardly makes it less badass. Eat your heart out Thermopylae!

Ghost Division - An awesome song about the 7th Panzer Division.

White Death - This is a song about the Finnish sniper Simo Häyhä, the best of the best. This guy, while lying still in the freezing -30 degree snow during the dark northern winter, used an un-scoped rifle to take out 505 Soviet soldiers, earning him not only a badass nickname, but also a place in history as the most effective sniper ever. Also survived a bullet to the face, and lived to a ripe age of 96.

Oh that reminds me.

"Rise of the Obisidian Interstellar" is a great chiptune album by Disasterpeace. I've been listening to it regularly for several months...favorite track is "Ensis".
You can listen to it here: http://disasterpeace.com/album/rise-of-the-obsidian-interstellar
He also did the soundtrack for the recently hyped FEZ indie game.

A couple of his albums are available as part of of current Indie Game Music Bundle 3 if you pay over $10. http://www.gamemusicbundle.com/

There's many more albums though, only 4-5 games, I guess that's why.

Ah, I was trying to remember where I saw Disasterpeace before, from the Fez soundtrack (which is pretty nice too).

Also the Cheap Dinosaurs album is what pushed me to get the Royal bundle this time. (first tune still stuck in my head)
