So, I just thought this was funny, but on Wikipedia, on Terraria, they had the 'See Also' part, and Spelunky was the second one

I know wikipedia is edited by users, so did one of you guys do that? :O

Heh, that's pretty interesting.
As far as game mechanics go, I don't see much resemblance, so it must either be a different kind of link, or a Spelunky fanboy/girl put it up there while high.
It's possible that the creators of Terraria did in fact take some inspiration from Spelunky, however.

[Kinda Off Topic]A game I've been watching the progress on that's quite similar to Terraria is King Arthur's Gold, which had it's first open beta released before Terraria was released, and so was quite disconnected. However, any further discussion along this line should be moved to a topic outside of the Spelunky board.

Yeah, I think it's pretty cool actually. Apart from Platforming there really isn't much similarity.

I can only think of Spider webs, dirt, and that's about it.
edit: also, water(obviously) guns, merchants.

but yeah. those are all blatant things that are in most games really.

It should realy be the other way around in wich, Spelunky is made to be a mixture of Platform games and rougelikes, but terraria is also a platformer but has some roughlike elements also, eg, Randomly generated, Items in chest you have to find, you die lots, ect

Dieing lots is what makes it fun. I would hate spelunky if I could beat it in less than 867 tries

While that may be true, a simple reading of the relevant posts would inform you that we were in fact discussing similarities between Terraria and Spelunky. The Terraria deaths were actually what we were talking about. Kindly read a little.
