All tested by rocks landing on their head, except shopkeeper, who got a face full of spelunker's shoe.

Shopkeep- .72
Vamp 2.08
Damsel 2.52
Man Eating Plant 3.92
Yeti 4.00
Caveman- 4.16
Cultist 4.20

All times are in seconds. Looks like the cultist and caveman are the safest to sacrifice, as they have a whopping 4.20 seconds before they wake up. On the other hand, the shopkeeper woke up once he stopped bouncing, 0.72 seconds after the spelunker hit his head.

Hm. Either way, I just sacrifice yetis and man-eating plants. The fun in sacrificing is that you never know when you'll be eaten/tossed to oblivion.

Oh fuck, I just realized I was recording at 32 fps instead of 24. Oh well, multiply each time by like 1.3.

So if we multiple these numbers by the amount of favor given, we can determine the risk/reward for each sacrifice:

Cultist (stunned) = 4.20 * 6 = 25.2
Damsel (stunned) = 2.52 * 8 = 20.16
Yeti (stunned) = 4.00 * 4 = 16
Cultist (dead) = 4.20 * 3 = 12.6
Damsel (dead) = 2.52 * 4 = 10.08
Caveman (stunned) = 4.16 * 2 = 8.32
Yeti (dead) = 4.00 * 2 = 8
Man Eating Plant (stunned) = 3.92 * 2 = 7.84
Shopkeeper (dead) = .72 * 6 = 4.32
Caveman (dead) = 4.16 * 1 = 4.16
Vampire (stunned) = 2.08 * 1 = 2.08

Stunned cultists, as eguee pointed out, are the best. Not only do they stay unconscious for a long time, they provide a great deal of favor as well.

Note that shopkeepers only give 6 when dead. But since they don't lie at the altar long enough to be sacrificed, that's the only way to sacrifice them.

I'm not sure those numbers really say much of anything though.  There's no use of the time value for dead enemies as they don't wake up.  Man-eating plants are more dangerous than other enemies to carry around, and there's no danger in a stunned damsel waking up in your arms.

All good points.

It seems my foray into Spelunkynomics was rather Spelunky Bat ty.

Very good use of the  Spelunky Bat, I must say.

Anyways, I'd rather save a damsel early on in the game, rather than sacrificing her. Any damsel I see areas 1-2 I save. 3-4, their asses are on that altar.

If a damsel and an altar exist in the same level, she's always dying to blood goddess no matter what.

And, if I might note, I like "Spelunkynomics."

fall speeds?
Yeah, the rate at which the items fall.
Turns out that the held items fall fastest, then the parachute-less alien, then everything else, then the spelunker, then the powerups and the rock.

So much for the laws of physics. I mean, the air resistance can't be that bad can it?
