I sure hope they're trolling.  :Smiley

On a non-side note: Love the trailer, love the music. Want an XBox. Cant afford. I'm sad now.

Whatever, let the haters hate. It's their loss for missing out on such an amazing game.

Oh, you still read YouTube comments?  I gave up on that.  Reality and YouTube comments exist on non-intersecting lines.

I remember the reason I bought my 360. Super Meat Boy was just released, and Team Meat lowered the price by half for the first week of sales. I bought a $200 console to save $5 on a $10 game. best purchase of my life. anyway, I feel as though Spelunky HD is a continuation of the (soon to be) best purchases on/relating to my console. also, I think I fucking saw meat boy at the end of that trailer. is he a playable character, or was that just thrown in to mess with me?

Video dissection:
- At 0:45, it looks like the arrow from the arrow trap is coming from the wall across from it. Are they really that fast?

- The boulder at 0:53 doesn't kill the snake it crashes into; rather, the snake is carried.

- You don't have to look closely at 1:00 to see the landmine the spelunker triggers. Judging by the other one in the upper-right corner, I guess these will be regular obstacles in the ice caves.

- In the jungle section at 1:02, the player has the Udjat eye equipped, as seen next to the money counter in the HUD.

- 1:11 introduces a new hive area, which is likely a level feeling judging by the jungle outside it.

- The weapon at 1:14 looks alien to me, and there's no questioning its power as it appears to kill a yeti king in one shot. Note how the projectile explodes at the end of its path, breaking blocks. I won't beat around the bush; this gun looks like a massive energy power cannon of deadly doom.

- Tiki-masked jungle people throw boomerangs that can hurt other monsters, as seen at 1:19-1:21.

- At 1:23, a jackal-headed creature like the Egyptian god Anubis, accompanied by two red skeletons, is summoned to kill the spelunker.

- 1:25 tells us that our beloved Jaws is back with his army of piranhas.

- 1:29 reveals all the playable characters. These are...
The typical spelunker we know and love...
     his blue-themed, Scottish-looking and mutton-chopped friend...
the Indian/African desert guide clad in red...
and an unassuming woman dressed in green!

- We learn players have controllable ghosts at 1:35.

- The formidable scepter is seen to return at 1:36.

- 1:39 shows a new area that looks very... organic. My guess is that you're inside some giant creature, as hinted by the spore-like growths and parasitic monsters present.

- At roughly the same time, we see that players can throw each other around as the spelunker launches his blue friend to the side.

- 1:42 shows yet another new area, this time resembling a very futuristic and high-technology setting. I personally think this is a continuation of the current alien ship level feeling, but it could be a new area type entirely or an arcade level separate of the main game. It could also be none of those things, so we'll have to wait to be sure!

- In that futuristic area, we see some devious devices like auto-turrets and moving platforms.

- At 1:46, things get crazy, everyone blows up, gets stabbed, or falls in lava, and we see that each character's ghost is stylized to match the character.

- I cannot figure out, for the life of me, how he's holding that match at 1:51. Not to say I care, of course, but it's still something that caught my eye.

I was wondering when someone would do a video dissection.  Wink
Some things that AI didn't point out:

- At 1:01 when the mine goes off, the flying debris from the ice hurts the damsel.

- At 1:02 Spelunky Man throws the bomb into the water and it opens a chest and at 1:48 the fallen red bag smashes open a crate.

- At 1:22 Spelunky Man picks up what appears to be the Book of the Dead (design copied from Evil Dead 2?) and it summons red skeletons. My guess is that the skeletons are friendlies.

- The blue player at 1:31 is hurt by a sleeping bat. It appears as if bats are slower to aggro.

- There is a chunk of what appears to be jungle terrain at 1:35 in the temple area. Could this possibly be a custom level?

- At 1:42, Spelunky Man picks up a knife which doesn't appear on his character, but rather as a piece of equipment showing up on his HUD. This does not appear to be the case for all weapons judging from the alien blaster weapon at 1:14 and the familiar shotgun at 1:25.

- An icicle falls from above at 1:14.

- At 1:49 a seemingly new gun comes out of a smashed crate by the red player.

- At the end of the teaser, a Meat Boy character (following the style in this picture) appears on screen. This is most likely a secret/unlockable character and a homage to Team Meat's use of Spelunky in Super Meat Boy. This leaves the possibility for other secret characters as well (?).

Multiplayer:

- Only Spelunky Man is followed by the camera in the larger levels while other characters can be off screen (1:39). Either player 1 has been designated as or is by default the camera-followed-guy.

- Throughout the multiplayer demonstration, you notice that dead characters drop colored bags. I'm assuming that these bags contain any bombs, ropes and other items the dead character held.

Yeah, I saw that too, but only when I was showing it to a friend.

People that make comments like this:
TERRARIA CLONE !
And this:
TERRARIA RIP-OFFFFF HOLY FFFF
And even this:
Cheaply Terraria-Clone BORRRRING!
Should be shot, the fact that people can be this stupid is pathetic.
Yes these comments have been copy pasted from Youtube.
really? they're doing that? Do they know that Terraria's development only started in January? This started way before that, since Spelunky itself was actually the 'prototype' or whatever. I hate people that troll and no background evidence to justify their stupidity.
anyway, seriously, still incredibly excited for this.

Hello Derek Yu & Friends,

You guys are going a great job!  The trailer AND the music are both magnificent.  This is the kind of game I'll play so much that I'll be seeing it in my sleep.  I'm glad to see that work on Spelunky is steady and progressive.  Keep up the good work!

I'll second that. This is one of my most anticipated games, right up there with the AAA titles like Skyrim, and Guild Wars 2. Really great looking work so far, gentlemen! The game is shaping up really well, and looks like super amounts of fun to play.

I LOVE the new music but why not have an option to play remixes of the old music?
