I've had this problem a few times before, but I don't know what I did to rectify it the first times. Basically what happens is the game opens like normal and when you get to the Title Screen the Spelunky man will run in and the game will act like Left and Up are always being pressed. I have another computer running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (both computers are running this version) and it runs the game just fine. I'm using the unofficial 1.2 version of Spelunky.

If I use the troubleshoot compatibility module the game runs with no sound and full screen, I'm not sure what the problem is and how I fixed it on this computer the first time, but I had to get the hard drive replaced so I have no recollection of what I did to make it run properly.

Did you press up and left when it happened? I think there's some bug where keys can be 'stuck'...

sorry if this was obvious, and you've already tried it...

if I press Right the Spelunky dude goes slightly less faster to the left, none of my keys are stuck. Whatever the problem is the game is completely unplayable on my laptop, I might just copy all my files from my desktop and see if it'll run right on here, I have no idea honestly.

I seem to have heard of this problem before...maybe I had it myself and I don't remember.
Try running config.exe, make sure "Use Gamepad" is unchecked (I assume you are playing with the keyboard) and save those settings.  If that doesn't work and you have a gamepad plugged in, unplug it and see if it makes a difference.

I didn't even notice that was checked when I was changing the settings. That seems to have fixed my problem. Thanks. I would've gotten back to this sooner but I'm seldom on my laptop.
