Adventure Game Studio is a tool for creating Point-And-Click(and variations) adventure games.
Now, since there's a whole forum and website devoted to talking about what can be done with the engine, this topic will be to introduce AGS to this corner of the Internet, if it hasn't seen it already. For a start, and for Devon, I'll post a wuick list of game recommendations:
5 Days a Stranger: Horror. One of the most highly acclaimed games made with AGS. Won 5 AGS awards. Created by everyones favourite, Yahtzee, off Zero Punctuation and all that.
A Tale of Two Kingdoms: Epic fantasy. One of my all-time favourites. Won 4 AGS awards. Even has replay value!
Apprentice 1 Deluxe: Fantasy Comedy. Short. Combined with the original version, won 5 AGS awards. One of only a handful of games to ever be rated 5 cups by the rating panel. Fantastic all around!
Awakener: Very short and
VERYcute. MY ALL TIME FAVOURITE AGS GAME!!!11!1!
Ben There, Dan That: I haven't actually gotten around to playing this game yet...*downloads!!!*, but i do know that it is available on Steam with it's non-free sequel,
Time Gentlemen, Please! and that the two together have been ridiculously well received. In fact, I seem to recall something about it outselling Assassin's Creed at one point...
ColourWise: Thi isn't an adventure game. A puzzle game, actually. Very fun. Won three AGS awards.
Duty and Beyond: This one is full of adventure game jokes, but is still perfectly accessible to newcomers. Won 2 AGS awards.
Eternally Us: A beautiful little art-game made by two of the more talented AGSers. Won 2 AGS awards.
Nelly Cootalot: Spoonbeaks Ahoy!: Fantastic game, although I never actually finished it...*redownloads*. Won 5 AGS awards. A 5 cup rated game.
Shifter's Box: Outside In: Very well recieved. by the same person as Awakener. Won 2 AGS awards.
The Art of Theft: another of Yahtzee's games, though not an adventure. Fantastic sneak-thief/arcade game. Won 2 AGS awards.
The Journey Down: Over The Edge: AMAZING game. So successful that the creator has started making an improved version for commercial sale, and is working on it full time... I think. Won a RECORD(!) 11 AGS awards, and well deserves all of them.
Trilby's Notes: Horror. Another one by Yahtzee. Also one of the few 5 cup rated games. Won 4 AGS awards.
Warthogs: A lovingly crafted Harry Potter parody. Created by the same people as A Tale Of Two Kingdoms.
Oceanspirit Dennis: Scourge of the Underworld: A lovingly
Shit game inspired by a troll on the AGS forums. Sparked a whole series of games following the various exploits of OceanSpirit Dennis and his companions,
two of
which I Beta Tested.
I'll add more later, but feel free to try any off the thousands of games that have been made with AGS, since I've only actually played a select few.
In fact, you can be quite safe playing any of the games that are rated 4 cups or more, and nearly all of the 3 cup games are of similar quality.
Or even some 2 cup games... Eh, I'll give examples later.
Enjoy, discuss, shout.
