I'm using Windows 7 on a laptop.

Alright, so the whole screen goes black after I close spelunky. Some of it clears if I hover my mouse over an icon, but only around the pointer. I can clear some of the darkness with F5 or by minimizing/maximizing a program but it's still exorbitantly annoying that it almost makes me feel physical pain whenever it happens. Please. Please tell me there's a way to fix this.

Have you updated your video card in the last month?

If not, do so.

I too am having this trouble. I get an error message the moment I load Spelunky or the config tool, but both load regardless. After I close either, everything goes black and I have to wave a few windows around to clear it all up again.

I'm also noticing some performance issues, as it doesn't run quite as fast on my laptop as it should. I've just installed a fresh copy of XP via bootcamp on my macbook and have been filling it with indie titles and the like that -shouldn't- be quite as demanding on my rig.

I'm still whipping it into shape, which means I can't tell whether or not it's my hardware, the game's demanding nature? or something associated with the error.

When video cards are first released, their drivers are usually buggy early on. Make sure you update your video card driver to the latest version.

What version of directX do you have installed Ashyr?

Using the directx diagnostic tool, the latest version I could see was 9.12? I double-checked, using th microsoft downloader for 9.0c, so I think I'm up to date there. The screen is definitely still blacking out though it looks like my performance may have improved a tad? It's tough to tell what's placebo though.

Does anyone else have some thoughts or experiences? If there's a diagnostic I can run that would provide more feedback, I earnestly desire an improved experience. I understand if the developer is too busy, so in no way am I trying to pressure anyone or anything. It would just be nice to discover a simple mistake I'm making or an easy fix that could smooth things out.
