Anyway I just got Minecraft last week (had to buy it before it went beta), and I'm totally absorbed in my first survival world I created.. I haven't tried any mods or multiplayer yet. I'm sort of holding off on multiplayer until I learn all the crafting recipes I guess.

i do know a site that will tell you the crafting recipes but its full of spoilers.
Its actualy very simple you just make it look like whatever you want to make like a boat is a U shape.

Thanks, that's what i'm using.  I don't have a problem with recipe spoilers (i'm certainly not going to guess what I can craft).. I just want to get the point where I don't need to keep checking the wiki every few minutes. It's just a matter of aquiring the materials. I only just found my first diamond vein last night.

The fluid dynamics are a little weird. I was trying to fill a shallow moat with buckets of water and it just stays near where you dump it instead of spreading out evenly... and it had a current in one direction which ended up being nice because it swept the mobs away from entrance to my cave.

as for the fluid mechanics i comlpetely agree it basicly starts from the source(wereever you put the water down) and it starts getting shallower form there. If your trying to make a nice even moat thats tough youll need alot of water to even the whole thing out. an easy infin souce is if you dig a 2x2 hole in the ground and put water in two opposite corners.

The water mechanics are indeed a bit wonky

I did learn one thing however, if you want to fill a deep hole dig out the hole first then lay dirt on the inside so that your artificial lake/pool/fishing hole is then only 1 square deep (and i dont mean fill it totally, just one layer of dirt with the rest of your hole hollow) then, by using an infinite spring to fill your bucket, put a source water block on every square of dirt. when thats done break out all the dirt and you should have a nice flat lake instead of the weird shit i ended up with when i tried placing water around the sides of a hole

also idk if that common knowledge or not, took me a while to realize

So I'm doing some videos with commentary for youtube.  First day I get a decent house built, night comes and I crawl into my house to hide.  I should take the time to say that every night a spider usually shows up at my window on any save I make.  As usual I get my nightly visitor, but this time there's a twist
