Does armor actually weigh you down in water? Never had occasion to notice. Also remember using buckets of lava in a furnace destroys your bucket as well, and there is still a giant abundance of coal.

Ptm, yeah aquaphobia was what I was talking about in this instance, of course, I happen to have a mild case of arachnaphobia as well.  Undecided

Well, maybe slightly more than mild: long story, not related to minecraft sorry;
So there was a game Earth Defense Force on 360, very cheap looking shooter. I decided to try it out, starts out with you blasting giant ants who were giantized by alien rays or some nonsense. After a couple levels of that you shoot down some ufos and robots. Then a lady comes on your radio saying they have found a new type of insect, one that's more clever and war-like. It shows them dropping from flying saucers by the hundreds from a distance. "Oh, looks like beetles", I think. Wrong, running down the street toward the shooting, I see a couple humongous hairy legs creep over the top of the skyscrapers in the distance.

Then they start leaping down the street, a hundred feet in the air. At this point I was literally frozen and couldn't move until they got close enough to actually get to me. Which was when I ran backwards, firing randomly and hopped in a tank. It was quite traumatizing and I couldn't play anymore after that.

Minecraft spiders though, aren't too bad. If I played with a high-def texture pack or something, I probably wouldn't be able to handle them. The red ones from Painterly are a bit creepy though.

Yes, armor really does weigh you down.

And didn't I hear something about prefix monsters?

yes, prefix mobs will exist, things like cold zombies in snow zones, or flaming skeltons in the dersertets

I dont know the exact values but yeah it does slow you down, I *think* iron is the worse but due to not being far into my easy map and only using edited diamond armor for the invincibility property in my peaceful i havent had the chance to see which is worse, i think its pretty safe to say though that in terms of water movement none > Leather > Gold Diamond Iron

Prefix mobs have been talked about for a while, probably ever since Notch's first test of Giant zombies (which was back in the launch of alpha i do believe, wiki said so). Given prefixes would be Zombie and Giant what with the whole Giant Zombies and Zombie Pigmen, though on second thought we might see what was done with the slimes who have four official size names, huge, big, normal, and small, we may see all of those as prefixes in addition the the giants

I wonder what other prefixes there could be...
Armored for sure

hmnn

oh, ive had two ideas for minecraft that i might as well leave here and see if you guys think its a good idea or bad

first being wet cement :B im kinda iffy on the idea myself but i keep having to fill in holes that take forever if i dont want to leave them hollow, i figure something that acts like water (though obviously would be different) but at the speed of lava would be useful, and any full blocks it fills would harden into something similar to the regular stone

the other being some support for multiple mob skins, its kinda boring what with only like 4 friendly and 6 aggressive mobs, but some extra flair could be added if the game supported say adding a mob skin under the name cow2.png

MARBLE COWS BROWN COWS BLACK COWS SPACE COWS THINK OF ALL THE MOOING

but yeah, the game could just assign the skins at random whenever it spawns a new mob, i think it would be cool

Also mars beat me to posting
dude i dont think cold and flaming are proper minecraft prefixes, this is not super scribblenauts

I like the islands pic, lots of the terrain is too tame in current world gen. I miss the insanely shaped overhangs, gorges, and general craziness. The wet cement idea is kind of similar to slow sand from the Nether, so not sure how useful that would be. But I do remember hearing someone mention "Notch added brown cows" when he changed the skin and thinking, he didn't add them, he changed the old ones to brown. I always thought there should be at least bulls and cows, maybe different biomes could hold different colors?

Finally, thank you for what will surely be your most embarassing quote yet. >:-D

dude what the beep are you talking about?

I have seen MORE of these things after the generator updated, and the caves? 6 times as epic.

stop acting like your bad luck is everyones.

sorry that was rude, but there are trolls on the minecraft fourm who keep saying that, and it's not true.

Oh God lol that quote's just giving me bad mental images.

Anyways, things i have Learned about the new level generation

1. It likes to make only half a mountain. It is very lazy.

2. Caves looks pretty interesting when exposed like this

3. The levels are generated by aliens

If you cant tell it looks like ET, you just gotta kind of flip it since the head is at the bottom of the pic, as if he were taking the birthing position
Edit: on second thought, see if this image make it any easier to make out the shape

4. This has nothing to do with level generation, just an experiment which pretty
much all i got was "Mobs cannot wear helmets"

OK Mars, my turn to say "this is just plain wrong", I'm interested to know how long you have actually played Minecraft?

Underground cave systems have been updated immensely, I'm talking about variety of the landscape. Has nothing to do with 'my bad luck', after generating dozens and dozens of worlds since indev (like I said I haven't had a world over 10mb) It's something that's become quite apparent. When Infdev started I could, in any world genned, walk for quite sometime continuously mystified at the land. Enough to get lost just from exploring. The world still looks good, but it's more normal now, I have to assume Notch wanted that since he thought about removing the floating factor of blocks too.

But, you know, whatever. Also, don't lump me in with MC forum trolls or we are going to have a problem here.

Sorry... I really didn't mean to be rude. I have played from the crash, when it was free, to now. So a bit before the update. And yes, I  did buy it.

You know the easiest way to settle this is to email you some upload some cool worlds I got. Sound good?

That's alright, I wish I had some shots from some of the older worlds, apparently I cleaned them all out. Just post some shots of the stuff you found more interesting if you like, not big into downloading worlds.

I guess even for the MC community as a whole it's a bit controversial whether the unique landscapes should be rare or not. It's cool to find something extraordinary every once in a while, I can see the argument that them being too regular cheapens the experience. I just liked that it didn't feel like the real world, it was pretty fantastical.

If it helps he wants to add flying islands as a normal thing and all kinds of magic stuff.

like wizard towers or mob citys and dragon layers

Well, I think flying islands was a thought for a type of biome, but not sure how likely that is to happen at this point. Magic is so controversial in the MC community (yeah, like what's not right?) he's gonna have to really think about it to keep from a humongous flame fest. The best magic idea I've seen was LightWarriorK's Big Book of Alchemy, which suggests a more costly method of obtaining the most powerful and rare items the game can offer. It's a very planned out idea and would be pretty interesting to see implemented.

But Notch has gone on record as saying there will never be "pew-pew" magic in Minecraft, i.e. no shooting fireballs, health spells, lightning bolts, etc. As well as no dragons.

Also Mario, how do you get killed by a tree? You mean falling off?
