I'm sure some of you play Knytt stories, and as a fan of it I'm rather shocked by the lack of Knytt topics

Then again I suppose there isnt much to talk about outside of Sharing levels and custom data. Well it's a good thing that that was what I wanted to share erlol

Here you can talk about some of the levels youve played, make recommendations, share original levels and tilesets or whatever

to start us off here's some of my levels (they have theme naming that has nothing to do with the content)

http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?zidggzfiwym
Cake, Version 1.1 - My first level \o/ (Two fixes from original, found more to fix though)

http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?yl895sx3lpg8xbh
Cake Challenge - unrelated to the above link, its actually based on a picture from encyclopedia dramatica

http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?m0mxniwle4d
Demo collection - To preview things I was working on, unfortunately it wouldnt upload to the official level site thus making it somewhat useless

http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?nzid4jjj1mz
Pie Demo, version 1.1 - im not even sure how far this demo is, its been forever since I uploaded it. Pie aims to be much harder then the other stuff I've made

http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?94t2rlz9r1dc4r2
Spoon, version 0.9.3 - Aside from the few harmless wall swim areas this level is mostly complete with the exception that the bonus area for getting all 4 keys hasnt been made yet (you can still see all the test areas I used for building the jumps around your current powers as well as the mural in the bonus room which has an amusing secret)

I hope you like whats there, gimme feedback, if theres any ideas or comments you have i will listen

also some custom Gradients and Tilesets for you

Gradients:

Tilesets:

This was highly edited, getting those sprites to fit the tile dimensions took forever

And finally http://i52.tinypic.com/2937d40.jpg Its the mural from the bonus room of Spoon, so spoilers and what not

also shh i forgot how to make links without the url

Nice, that purple one is really sweet looking. I'll try these a bit later, haven't played Knytt since testing out the online version with Q0099.

GOGO MAKE ME PROUD ARUCARD I havent played much of it for a while either but i still want to show my old levels off, I dont think anyone other then close friends has played them to be honest lol

oh, and how did online work? i havent tried it out yet

I'm sure it took some work, I made a Cave Story level but couldn't rip the sprites so I took screenshots and used GIMP to pull out each piece of the environment one at a time. I didn't know about Spriter's Resource when I did that. :|

Online was interesting, you couldn't really interact with others mostly just see people playing and be able to chat. But you could load up any level you have even though there were some specifically designed for the online play. It was nice being able to play larger levels and split up to find different paths, secrets and whatnot. Unfortunately there weren't many people playing since Nifflas had already released Saira and was working on Fire Nuclear Crocodile Killer. Tongue

Oh, PS  {url=http://}link text{/url} with the other brackets of course

oh wow, i may have not known about TSR but I knew of sprite resources for the longest time, id use either Shy Guy Kingdom or just google if i wanted something, I an't believe you used screen shots xD

this reminds me i need to edits those sprites already for that Cave Story Spelunky I wanna make

I see, well I suppose it would be nice to have some sorta jump-on-eachothers-head-for-a-height-boost sorta thing that gets done in halo, it would at least make KSO levels easier to make since one would just have to make an alcove you cant normally reach instead of some crazy maze contraption

ahh, idk how I forgot that, also I like how the rest of you all use crazy coding contraptions to display it, like what ptmc did with the image tag
...you can add an alt= atrribute to
Code:
tags so that...

and then you with the Curly Brace, its easier to just do this:
Code:
[url[b][/b]=http//:www.com]Link Text[/[b][/b]url]
[color[b][/b]=teal]Color Text[/[b][/b]color]
[img[b][/b]]http//:www.com[/[b][/b]img]
[Quote[b][/b] author=person whom you are quoting]Quote[/[b][/b]quote]

Dotting the Bold tag everywhere disrupts the coding without making a visible change, it ends up looking like this:
[url=http//:www.com]Link Text[/url]
[color=teal]Color Text[/color]
[img]http//:www.com[/img]
[Quote author=person whom you are quoting]Quote[/quote]

Earlier:
too much work, easier to just use an alternate symbol.

Or the idea you just gave me:
Code:
[url=http://]link text[/url]
I almost asked how hard these were but figured, why don't I just try them? -_-

The pie demo seems to be broken, unless I missed something. You need the climb orb to get to the climb orb? Or double/high jump I guess. And I couldn't install spoon, said it may use an exploit, wouldn't install in KS or KS Advanced. I didn't try manually though.

Anyway, the level layout of the one I could play is pretty well done. It seems to use a lot of the surprise tricks that are employed throughout the Knytt Stories. Only missing corner jumping and that reverse wall float jump thing. (I remember it from Gustav's daughter, sliding down one side of the wall, opening the umbrelly, then jumping up to grab the opposite side of the same wall. So frustrating) Honestly I like the more laid back type levels, with exploration over difficulty but those were well done anyway.

The little Cave Story part made me wish I had kept my level around just to play with it again.

I havent touched that version in a long long time, but it SHOULD work

im guessing the one that worked is cake, whih was meant to be tricky like that, I dont remember where I used the cavestory tile set so im not 100% sure we're on the same page (though if you want i can make a tileset or two for cave knytt story)

I have no clue what happened with spoon, could you show me somehow?

im going to try to get to the bottom of your problems, by reording a playthrough of the different levels i put up, with pie you might just be missing something you need to progress which youll be able to see in the video

plus i have nothing else to do so time spender gogo \o/

I realized what you just meant, but I already made a video so here it is lol

It probably makes more sense if I just explain it, basically theres a programming quirk in the engine for KS, you're able to jump just after leaving a platform, while your feet arent touching anything, if you time it right youll be able to make a midair jump after walking of the platform which will perfectly place you in the alcove with the orb, even dodging the falling enemy

thats a thing to remember with my levels, usually theyre straight forward, but demand precise movement to get through

well, theres a bunch of alternate paths that have tiny easter eggs, ironically most of them are oversights i didnt see when first building the level, and put there just as a fancy way of preventing seeing the void screen, even in the demo of pie you have there is one area where you can view a void screen

also I looked into the file mishap for Spoon 0.9.3 and the same thing happened to me, idk why, but it was a real pain in the ass since I deleted the directory before trying to install it so i could see if it worked

so basically since i had no way to restore the files all the data was gone

so i had to download an old version of it, and since I was going to the trouble of redoing everything anyway i thought I might as well finish the bonus room. Right now the only thing keeping me from finally having it at v1.0 is not knowing how to add an alternate win screen

Actually, I knew about the float jump exploit, I didn't know about the spike trampoline. Spike Trampoline!?!? But that was the cave story level I meant too.

Is the void screen you meant the one above the room where you jump on the music notes? I think that's where I saw one.

It's funny you mention the oversight easter eggs, I did pretty much the same thing. A lot of places you would have no reason to jump that far or something ended up with wallswims. Then because of going the opposite direction you push while wallswimming, you could go up and over a screen into a different room. I started putting "star zones" (from SMW) and intended to make those the challenge areas, where the straight game would be only mildly difficult. All fell apart though, considering the negative reaction I got to the level. I still think it was a cool idea though. Undecided

Ah, good thing I made the video then.

So you had to do a wallswim to get to the secret areas? I'm not sure I'm entirely fond of that since more often wall swimming is due to oversights and no matter how many times I try theres nothing good on the other side. It's easier to just have a secret area that Immediately shows you that theres something interesting there, if you wanted them to lead to bonus levels then you should leave a key or a warp. The only time there should be intended wall swimming is when its glaringly obvious that youre supposed to do it, good for levels meant to mess with you (Castle Toilet comes to mind, invisible mazes and much use of the void gradient)

What do you mean by negative reaction? People didn't like the level? You should post the DL links here so I can give it a whirl.

Well, they weren't exactly going to be part of the level. I just found one and thought, wow this would be cool to accidentally stumble onto, so I decided to make one or two more like that. The others were difficult jumps and a hidden warp that you had no real reason to get near otherwise. Like I said, I usually like the exploration style ones over challenge levels.

Yeah, all but one person basically told me how stupid it was to make the Cave Story areas and how the graphics didn't match up at all, etc. etc. I've since deleted the level entirely, so there's nothing left but memories now.  Cry
