Hello everyone. Smiley Obvious, I'm a new member, but have been following the game for quite a while, as well as its advancements and I should say, congratulations. :p It has kept me hooked hours on end. Instead of "Congratulations", let me say "Thank you very much" instead. Wink

On to the question!

I was wondering, since I've never really touched GameMaker Pro, if the source code is in any... "regular" language (C# for example) ? All in all, I was going to try and port it to the newly open world of PS3 homebrew, but I can't (obviously, at least for now.) open the source since I don't have GameMaker Pro, so I have no idea of what the source actually looks like...Don't even know if it's able to port it, to be honest.

I'll wait for someone with more info on the matter (or someone with G.M.P.) to enlighten me on these doubts. Smiley Thank you in advance.

I think GM uses its own stupid programming language, but someone else might be able to tell you better.  I rather doubt it's port-able, though.

How to port:

1. Get Windows emulator for PS3.
2. Get Spelunky(Editor Plus[lolshamelessplug]).exe onto PS£.
3. Run Spelunky.exe with your emulator.
4. Huh?
5. Profit!

That easy huh? :p Well, no. First of all, we've been denied access to "OtherOS" by Sony itself... Secondly, even if we did and somehow managed to run Windows through it we wouldn't have the proper drivers, nor access to nVidia's RSX... And coding out a full fledged x86 emulator is completely out of reach for me. And I doubt it'll be happening soon enough.

@ halibabica - Thanks, I figured it would be the case :\ I guess I'll wait for further confirmation but, as you said, even I doubt it's port-able.

Yeah, I remember updating my PS3 and jaw-dropping to see they decided to take that out. I was thinking, why the hell did they offer it in the first place just to take it away?

Being among the most oblivious as far as coding/programming. I do know this; You should be able to open and look at the Spelunky source with GM lite, just can't run it. GM does use it's own language, but has often been compared to C+ and is supposedly fairly similar (again coming from total layman). From there I guess it's a matter of your own coding skill.

People were NOT happy with that action on Sony's behalf. Unfortunately, when it comes to trials, the consumer loses pretty much all the time, so, the few that tried to follow suit on the matter, eventually lost. Sad story, but true.

Well, if it is indeed close to either C# or C++ then I could probably get around to porting it, or at least it's a shot I can take. Because honestly, I would REALLY want to play Spelunky on the PS3 (Wouldn't be that different from playing it on a PC with a wireless controller but... Novelty, I guess.) and it would be an extension to my programming skills as well as a nice feat. Which, I'm sure, more than one person would like.

My friend (Twitch on this forum) plans on someday remaking Spelunky in C++, so he can then port it to DS. Just in case you were wondering.

For some time now I've been considering reverse-engineering Spelunky, and the required amount of the GM run-time engine, to XNA, since I have rather a dislike for GML, and I do find it rather limiting.

If anyone would like to join me on this, I'm sure it could be done with a little effort.
I'm not a fantabulous coder, but I believe this would be a good learning exercise, since I reckon I have enough know-how to pull it off.
