Rather than weaken Lightning Strike, Hide It. On a random key (like how MGG has the number you press for the cheat room with items), make it an easter egg.

Shouldn't be obvious, and can't be near the keys actually used by Spelunky.

Problems I see:

Sprites. Quite messy
Mantykes. They float and swim. Not fly.
Giant Spiders and cavemen
Pikachu likes women.

Uh, I have some pika sprites, i'll rip more if you want.

I believe all this thunder is excessive to pick up a pot.
Would be better to have another key to do that.

THIS IS SO CUTE (: and i was actually going to suggest, to Halibabica to make it so you could play as the pokemon you caught, but I thought that'd be overpushing it alittle, but this is great, it's pretty much exactly what I wanted yet I didn't have to say anything.

This makes Spelunky incredibly easy... maybe have an inventory item for Thunder (limited uses, like bombs) and make Thundershock shorter range?
And like everyone's said, assigning Thunder to a different key would be awesome.
