You might've been expecting some shallow philosophical rambling. If so, I apologize, because now I want to talk about stuff I actually like.

Wakfu is a French animated series whose aesthetics I simply adore. It's like a cross between Wind Waker and Disgaea. The plot at its basic is nothing new, but the characters are quirky, the world vibrant, and the primary antagonist actually feels threatening while carrying a motive other than just opposing the protagonists.

Unfortunately, it serves as a reminder to myself the pitfalls of series production since I haven't taken to one in some time. Bits and segments of episodes can vary in quality; short-cuts like static frames or repeated shots do appear. The first season is front-heavy with filler and villain of the week plots with subtle world and character building, at best, and minimal or none at worst. Oddly enough, there's some in-story justification since the map the party uses hates their guts. Meanwhile, the season finale stands head and shoulders above the rest, both in animation quality and in providing a conclusion not expected of a Saturday morning children's cartoon.

Wakfu is also unusual for being cross-media, with a lot of backstory invested in its surrounding MMORPGs (yes, there's more than one), card game, comics, and others. Far as I know, there's no official dub or sub of the series (or any other media) so far, but there are fan-subs available if you have no qualms about those.

French designers and artists are awesome.

This and this guys made a lot of art for the game and animation series (dArt).

Take the time to make some sense of what you want to say and cast your words away upon the waves.

I mean, I've never heard of this at all, but thanks to some Googling (no link?) I think the graphics are pretty good. For the game, that is.

EDIT: Should I check out Dofus first?

I'm mostly concerned with the animated series, so you're on you're own there. I omitted links for similar reasons; while the MMORPGs are updated frequently, the television sites, especially the English one, seem to be updated haphazardly.

Well, I'll do the digging once I feel like it.

I'm kind of tired right now anyway.

But thanks.
