Well, I just got around to finishing Spelunky and have had a blast!  I've come across a few bugs and have some suggestions as well.

The first bug has to do with running, which can be a little glitchy at times.  If you grab a rope while running, let go of the run key and jump off, you will jump off at a running speed!  Personally I think this should be changed so that you only jump off at a running speed if you hold run and jump off a rope.  I believe this bug also happens when you grab a ledge, too.

The next issues are more annoying problems rather than bugs.  For example, if you hang off a ledge while holding something (walk towards a ledge while holding DOWN), you will always drop the held item.  On the other hand, if you jump and grab the same ledge while falling while holding something, you will not drop the item.  I think this is an issue with the character (don't know his name, lol) in that he drops held items if standing near a ledge too long.

Last, those challenges are very difficult.  I understand they're supposed to be challenging but regardless, I think a classic Lives system would be helpful - start off with 3 lives, each death restarts the level you're on with items reset.  Every 100k gold carried gives a new life, and perhaps add in random items that can be bought in stores or found in chests that add a life.  There's nothing worse than getting a really nice randomly-generated level and then suffering from a YASD from a bomb in a chest :p

That's all I can think of; I'll edit this if I think of more bugs or suggestions.

Well, the "drop items while fliphanging" thing is a feature,an annoying feature, but a feature nontheless,so,can't help you with that.As for the lives system, you could probably request aa mod that does this in our Source thread.Welcome to the forums!

The speed thing has always been around and, as such, is likely to never be fixed. You will not drop speed until your feet hit the ground again, underwater as well. Since it hasn't been fixed I assume it's an inherent bug of the platform engine, since that's where all the speed and movement is set up. In short, don't expect it to change unless it's done by the community.

Actually, from what I've seen in the source code, the speed thing IS intentional.  There are special variables that track the speed at which you catch onto a ladder and affect the speed at which you jump off it.  I'm actually glad those are in, because they help me get across lush cave spike pits faster and reach places a normal ladder jump just wouldn't.

Well, that, my friend, is not going to happen. After all Spelunky IS a roguelike. But congrats on finishing the game! Grin

It would be more handy though if you could actually use the run key to affect that instead of having to run when you grab the rope/vine, which is what he's suggesting.
