I think the only thing that matters is that you are playing as the tunnel man instead of the spelunker...

And maybe thrown ropes should be stopped by webs as well? right now they seem to be the only thing that's unaffected by the web (other than the spiders, apparently)

That does explain why he's always ahead waiting for you in the original game....

Pick can only be used when standing on the ground though. This could be annoying especially when you are climbing a ladder or something. Of course, if you fix your mind on finishing the level then indeed the tunnel man is far superior....after all, he's a bonus character.

Does it have movable blocks on either side? I've seen those. Can't recall any really unreachable situations...

The thing is, you can only have one of those at a time ever, unless you're juggling. The discussion is about a permanent upgrade to your whip in one form or another. Like how your boots can get upgraded two different ways, or you can upgrade your bombs.

But isn't that exactly the problem? A slot-free upgrade should not be that much powerful than a weapon that needs holding... Already some people find machete not worth holding at all. How should the update fit it into the existing paradigm without being too powerful?
Or else. I would certainly not reject a powerful upgrade! Grin

How 'bout getting a laser whip from the alien boss? Not that shoots lasers or anything, just glowing whip and a little longer.

That would be pretty cool... although the alien boss already has the jetpack as its loot. (Curiously, I haven't got one "psychic presence" level in the past ten to twenty runs...)

I don't think making the whip longer would be a good idea though. It can already hit beyond a block... the current whip - machete (shorter range but higher damage+overhead) - handgun - shotgun arsenal is quite complete, I think.

I'm not too sure whether this needs to be "fixed". Sometimes the level is just unkind...it's not like having the golden chest or the key misplaced outside the border, which had been very annoying in several previous versions.
I understand the frustration though, once I  saw a jetpack under the ground.... Cry
