1  Games / Spelunky Support / New Daily Challenge issue? Layout changes if you kill a shopkeeper? on: November 17, 2014, 09:27:32 PM
Now I don't know if this is how it's supposed to behave, but I don't think so. I played the DC tonight because the leaderboard seems to be working again, but then I ran into a new issue. When I finished and then watched some of my friends runs, they had a different layout starting in 1-3. It was mostly the same, but with some significant differences. The only difference I took note of in how I played it was that I killed the shopkeeper in 1-2 and they did not. So I tried playing it again in one of my kids' accounts and killed the shopkeeper and then I got the same layout for 1-3 and 1-4 as I had before (and different from my friends).

I just verified that the same problem happened on 11/13 (before the DC leaderboard collapse). I watch my replay, where I killed the shopkeeper in 1-2 and a friends who didn't kill the shopkeeper, and at the very least the location of the locked chest was different for me and I'm sure there were other significant differences including layout, but I didn't check that one as closely.

I'm reminded that the regular leaderboards (overall highest score and fastest time) have never worked right. Both my highest score and fastest time are better than what shows in those leaderboards, and same with at least some of my friends. They are correct in player stats. I wonder if that issue is related to the DC leaderboard issue.

The Daily Challenge leaderboards still aren't working. Score may show up right after you run, but will be gone the next time you check and there are bogus scores too. Well, hopefully this can be addressed fairly quickly. In the mean time we'll have to postpone the little tournament I was running.

PS3+PS4 doesn't give independent views? I was expecting that it was going to work that way. I bought an HDMI-to-VGA adapter so I could plug the PS3 into a computer monitor and we could have them both running and have Vita+PS3+PS4 for three independent views. Well that stinks if it doesn't work that way.

But supposedly the recent update fixed the out-of-sync bug. We'll be testing it out this weekend.

We had the same issue - the Vita and PS4 get out of sync. Supposedly this issue was fixed in the update that came out 3 or 4 days ago. I haven't had a chance to try Vita+PS4 coop again yet but will probably this weekend.

Also, the previous day we had 3 players who did the Daily Challenge but their scores have never shown up. It's probably also worth mention that at the start of that day those same bogus scores that are there in today's were in the leaderboard at first, but then a few minutes later they were gone and things seemed to be going fine.

A bunch of friends and I are running a DC tourney and as of yesterday the DC leaderboard is stuck showing two of our scores (friend leaderboard) and those scores are wrong. In fact mine was there but I hadn't done the daily yet. So I did my run and actually came across my own ghost! Afterward my score showed correctly, but then when I go back to the leaderboard later the bogus scores are back.

We have tried playing Spelunky PS4 lan play with a Vita and we have run into a bug that seems to be related to the one that the PS3+Vita had where when the shopkeepers are angry and you come across one with a servant, they free the servant and then in the PS3 version it would freeze the game. Instead of freezing the game, the Vita and the PS4 get out of sync. The Vita player appears to die, but they remain alive on the PS4 screen. In fact they can continue to control the character that way for a little while, but eventually it puts up an out of sync error message and the game is stopped. I hope this can be fixed soon. We really want to stream playing coop. Smiley

See the thread I just bumped up (was buried well below the spam) They know the cause and are working on the fix. Explanation of the actual cause is in that thread. It's this one:

Incidentally, if you have a PS Vita play it on there for now. It doesn't seem to be afflicted by the same bug.

Further update. The problem is caused by bought or freed hired hands and by opening coffins (single player). The reason it happens in black market with angry shopkeepers is because angry shopkeepers free their hired hands immediately.

Now that causes are known hopefully a fix will be out soon.

Well it's not just the Black Market. My son was playing this morning and opened a coffin and it froze.

Derek just tweeted that a fix will go up ASAP. So they are on it.

It appears the Vita version is not affected. I haven't had it crash and neither have friends of mine. The crash only seems to happen on the PS3. The update is great on Vita and would be on PS3 if not for this huge bug. Oh, and yes the shopkeepers were angry when I went in to the Black Market both times it crashed and they were not intially angry the time it didn't. So maybe that is the trigger. For now I'll stick to playing on Vita.

Here's what I posted:

I was excited to see the 1.0.3 update pop up as available on my PS3 tonight and so installed it right away. I jumped right into a Daily Challenge run and all was well (love the Pro-HUD) until I got to the Black Market. I threw a bomb and the PS3 froze the instant I threw it. I had to power of the console off. Powered back up and then my son and I were playing coop and got to the Black Market and we threw bombs but it didn't happen. However in another run we got to the Black Market again and I threw a bomb and BOOM. Crashed again. It has happened 2 out of 3 times so far.

Has anyone else run into this?
