1  Games / Spelunky Classic / Re: What other kinds of games could be Rogue-liked? on: October 22, 2009, 01:53:07 AM
Rogue-like Shooter?

Would work.

Rogue-like Racer?

I don't think this would work.

Rogue-like Tactics game?

Fire Emblem comes pretty close.  Just replace the static content with randomized content and you're there.

Rogue-like Sports game?

I don't think this would work either.

Spelunky did the performer very very well.. but what more could be done?

What about either a Link's Awakening/A Link to the Past style action adventure game?

I would suggest a metroidvania, but it looks like that idea has already been thrown out there.

A tacitcs game where you only have one person under your control doesn't seem very much fun to me..

Roguelikes are tactics games where you only have one person under your control.

The spelunker idea should be used in place of the ghost for the damsel.

Ha ha ha!  That's clever!

I dunno, if playing as tunnel man is any indication, it does NOT take that much money to dig a tunnel.

Well there's the costs for his time, and for putting his safety at risk, and he probably used some ropes and maybe some bombs in the process.

But let's be honest here.

As good of friends as the Spelunker and the Tunnel Man may be, money is their true love.

That's not a bad idea, but I dunno about the damsel being a straight downgrade.  Maybe make her run faster and not take falling damage in exchange for no weapon.

It's the e-peen factor. Like going through the whole run still holding the key.

Would this comment happen to be directed at me?

You mess with Spelunker... you mess with me.

"The Spelunker" is the best name for him.  Everyone else's name is a title.

The Damsel.  The Tunnel Man.  The Devil.

fixed

Thanks.  I don't know how I made that typo.

Lawful Good
Lawful Evil

There's no lawful anything in Spelunky.  This game, and everything about it, is held firmly in the realm of Chaos.

YEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!

This is the proudest moment of my gaming existence.

Special thanks to the Vanguard for his "infinite enemies" advice. Made that challenge a piece of frog and spider cake.

I spent the last week trying to get the time challenge. I think I died 1000 times. It was worth it.

Congratulations!

It worked. I just got the time and damsel open. Now for the kills and gold (The easiest ones, IMO!).

Yeah, you're on the home stretch now.

I'm especially impressed that you didn't use the tunnel man.

I thought situations like that are intentional.  Anyway, it's always good to hang on to at least one bomb just in case.
13  Games / Spelunky Classic / Re: Music! on: September 27, 2009, 04:31:32 PM
The first version I played used the music we currently have.  I believe that it always used the same music.

Could those videos have been made by the same person?  Maybe linking one would help get it figured out?

I posted some advice on how to get the trophy rooms here http://mossmouth.com/forums/index.php?topic=54.msg381#msg381 earlier.

Maybe it'll help?

I don't think it should be changed from the way it is.  I've never had problems with it, and it's not impossible for it to be useful.
