The many miles apart thing COULD explain Olmec's involvement...I think derek should break in on this soon...

I think the biggest problem is the multiplayer glitch with the coffins stealing all your items.

You have to remember though, that wasn't intended. Things like the web gun and machete were intended Tongue

They're not. Probably honored local leaders or wahtever. But considering this one is alive and jumping around there's gotta be something mystical going on.

Actually each of the olmec heads are (supposedly) styled after one model xD.
here are two examples:
http://www.bibliotecapleyades.net/egipto/fingerprintgods/images/olmec09.jpg
http://abagond.files.wordpress.com/2012/06/olmecheadmnah.jpg

At least the faces are, most of the head dresses have some differences though.
But this wikipedia page seems to want to contradict this. So far, olmec is  just a random guest-star. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olmec

I am guessing there has to be SOME kind of connection because in the temple you can get the "you hear prayers to kali" feeling yet in the final room of the temple, everyone is praising the olmec statue. I am also guessing that the hopping is to show the caves aren't just cursed, but cursed enough that objects can come to life Tongue. Also when you consider hell is just like 80 feet away, Yama may have just gotten one of the heads as a guardian?

Edit: Though I think the real question now may be, "Where is this adventure taking place?" Because the olmec civilization was in mesoamerica, while most peopls that practice hinduism live in india.

For the most part, it seems like they stuck with the Spelunky Classic values, for things that exist in both, anyway.

Never thought about that. I guess I can test it though xD

What about Olmec...

Thought I was forgetting something! From what I can find the Olmec heads aren't  connected to the religion, but I may have been mislead. What can you find on it? Cheesy.

So (getting to the actual info) here are the damage counts (and these are only things that could potentially hurt you (not monsters, most wikis state their damage). Key: X?- not confirmed ??- no damage count yet.

Bomb: 10?

freeze ray: ??

Plasma cannon: ??

shield: 1 to -4 ?

boomerang (when boomerang hits tnt box): 1

shotgun (1 bullet): ??

shotgun ( all bullets ) : ??

Most of these scenarios involve fighting the shielded black knight, but there is always a possibility that derek adds something that also reflects shots or decides that something else should reflect shots too. (Olmec Olmec Olmec Olmec)

Though it feels like I am posting too much considering I already forged a topic within this week... I have been skimming through the forums to see how I could commit to the community when a random thought occurred to me, "That weapon sure does a ton of damage..." So I want to dedicate a post to finding out the damage of EVERYTHING since every forum I've seen doesn't really say it. I just thought it would be good for reference on when it would be okay to risk getting bludgeoned by that one bomb or something Tongue.

This saddens me on an extreme level. Everyone is now hating on my precious web gun.I mean yeah, you NEVER buy it. Finding it though has saved me ropes before Tongue. I feel like people don't know you can jump through airborne webs or webs that are stuck on walls. MAKESHIFT CLIMBING GLOVES!!!!!!!!!!! . Plus you can stop enemies like the: black knight, boomerang man, boomerang, vampire, aliens, boomerang, and maybe even an alien tank. After stopping them you should have sufficient time to jump upon their skulls and crush their small defenseless bodies Cheesy.

I am thinking that the hell part could possibly just be named hell since it is a well known name for a terrible place (er I at least feel like it is well known.). Because I am quite sure that like, 40-60 % of religions have a hell like place of some sort. Here is a post from wikipedia (because google gives few choices) "Naraka (Hindu):   Naraka in Hinduism is similar to the Christian Hell, ... and Yama directs departed souls...". That wikipedia was VERY interesting, so if you want to read beyond this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yama . On that Egypt comment through some Googling(TM) I discovered this!: "Considering the enormous geographical distance between India and Egypt, ancient Egyptian religion and modern Hinduism have a surprising number of similarities in concepts and practices." This is leading me to believe that it is hindu...here is the site:   http://history-of-hinduism.blogspot.com/2010/07/hinduism-and-ancient-egyptian-religion.html

So, any contradictions? I think we need to dedicate a team to discovering the true religion it is based off. I bet my money on Hindu Cheesy... Now, that tricky book of the dead for those at home STILL reading. (wikipedia: afterlife. Been a bit link heavy so far :T) "Ancient Egypt... The afterlife played an important role in Ancient Egyptian religion...arriving at one's reward in afterlife was a demanding ordeal, requiring a sin-free heart and the ability to recite the spells, passwords and formulae of the Book of the Dead." So, if we are still assuming that "ancient egypt" was connected to hinduism... All we need to decipher are the hop hop zombies and the mayan queen. But I was actually just judging by the xbla version, so thanks for bringing that part up, Urza Cheesy.

So, I have been wondering for a while what the official Spelunky religion was. I have just assumed that it was Hindu since before I had found that Kali was a hindu goddess a while back. Oh, and while on this topic...Olmec is among us: http://jaguarstones.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/olmec-head.jpg . Yama is also connected to Hindu but I can't find anything connecting Olmec . All I can find is that the statues were made in mesoamerica. Not much connecting olmec and Hindu. So, what do you think/ can you find?  Forgot to mention upon the initial writing of this that I can find some connections with the moai and kapala. Also please excuse my lack of knowledge on the Hindu religion ^_^.

...What happened was basically the equivalent of Derek coming over to my house, shoving me over and kicking me in the balls over and over, then raping my mother.

Must have been a great run? xD
27  Games / Spelunky / Re: New DLC! on: July 04, 2013, 10:50:46 PM
If we add new areas to the singleplayer game or online multiplayer it will be a free Title Update and not paid DLC. Those are core features that I'd want everyone to play the game with.

In my opinion DLC should be for fun extras. Smiley
I know it is weird to be posting on something this old....but does this hint at the possibility of getting new levels and such? Or does mossmouth have bigger things in store? :O
28  Games / Spelunky / Re: "FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU" Moments on: July 04, 2013, 10:41:04 PM
One day I decided to go on a hell run. I had NEVER gotten to hell before and decided, "lets NOT play near the smash blocks in the golden temple this time, shall we?" After my most successful run I had ever had I reached trolmec. I wasn't confident enough to run under him due to a past hell run (involved monkey) that failed. So with some extra bombs I bombed the living bricks out of the ground and got ready to ride olmec to hell. So, he wouldn't fit into the hole near the bottom, I jumped in a nudge in the wall and LOW AND BEHOLD! The bastard traps me in the nudge. I have NO bombs and like 17 ropes. The bombs would have killed me anyway though. What ended up happening was that I tried to run under him when he jumped towards me but his jumping caught me in a loop of damage and getting knocked out. So I was stuck between I giant golden telekinetic head and a hard place. What was even worse was that I could see both the normal exit AND the hell exit.... I cried for 8 days straight.
29  Games / Spelunky / Re: The more-or-less official bug list! on: July 02, 2013, 05:24:16 PM
I have recently encountered a glitch where I have a kapala and I die BUT at the same time I gather enough blood to get a heart (I proceeded to get killed by a shopkeeper in the temple : T)! After getting the heart the music stopped playing. I am guessing this is because the music stops when you die and Derek had never though you would survive death without the ahnk. Once I exited to the next level/stage it returned though. Considering the music stopped playing I doubt this is intended. I love surviving it's just the music...That catchy music bro...I need it. This makes me wonder what would happen if that exact same thing happened AND you had the ahnk. I would try to reproduce it but... It be harder than a dimmadiamond, ya know?...Also, anyone mind trying to recreate this? I want to know if it was just a one time thing. This (also) also makes me wonder what would happen if you had sacraficed two damsals then sacraficed yourself and got the 8 hearts...
