The gum is a good replacement for the Rope.  I like how it pops if you float too long or collide with a wall.  It seems to be a bit off in the HUD, though.  Also, I got an error when I opened up a crate.  Something about a variable not being able to be created?

All right, so I poked the Spelunky source code in Game Maker Lite, and it seems like there's a lot I can do, but there's even more stuff that I can't.  So unless I shell out $25 for the full version, looks like I will need help making this after all.  I can still do sprites and stuff, though.

MGG, once I finish making the playable ManTrap sprites, I'll cash in that free game-making favor and have you place those sprites in the mod.  Beyond that, well...banna8?  Anybody?  A little help?

Oh, and I might as well tease you a little.  I plan on adding two more kinds of Mantrap to the mod:



The yellow one is a Venus Mantrap, and they'll live in the temple.  The blue one is a Tunnel Mantrap, and they'll live in the ice caves.  You'll also play as both of them by going in either of the Changing Rooms.

Well...after thinking long and hard about how exactly I want this mod to work, I came to the conclusion that about 99% of the changes that need made could be done by copying and pasting stuff from other areas of the source.  There are very few effects that would need to be created new, if any at all.

But I haven't had time to experiment yet because Real Life keeps happening to me.  Later today, though...we'll see.

So, I'm still working on the playable Mantrap sprites.  I have some good ideas about how to make them, and they're coming along just fine.  But I wanted to mention something new.

I want to add Spelunker, Damsel, and Tunnel Man as enemies in this mod.

I don't know how I'd make them behave just yet (or how I'd make them at all), but this is definitely something I'm gonna put some thought into.  I picked up Game Maker Lite, and plan on looking at the source code later.  If I can do what I think I can, I may not need as much help as I thought.

The design aspect would be important because otherwise anyone could just mash up every element of Spelunky in one custom level.

MANTRAP EATS EVERYONE!  NO ONE IS EXEMPT!



You may notice the last one is a blank.  I was thinking this row could be used for all item-eating sprite purposes.  Is it possible to have the item sprite move a certain way while being eaten regardless of what item it is?  Applying one generic format to all of them would save a lot of sprite work and details.

Also, I'm still working on the Mantrap-Spelunker sprite page.  And by that I mean, I haven't started it yet.  Anyway, back to work for me.  If any of you Game Maker techies can answer my previous question, I'd be very thankful.
