I finally completed Spelunky! Woot!

I've had a little play around with some more sound effects today and have sound pack version 3.

  • coin.wav - I actually quite like this now. Feels more like you're collecting a pile of gold coins and trinkets.
  • explosion.wav - I didn't like the old explosion. It was too distorted. This one has a nice rocky crumble after it.
  • gem.wav - Less sparkly than the old one, but still a 'gem' sound. Maybe still a bit to bling, what do you think?

I can't think of what to have as the ghost sound really. If anyone has any ideas? Should it be a spooky groan, or a monstrous roar?

eg: "Geeeet ouuuut of myyyy CAAAAAVVVEEE!"

I didn't want to sound overly critical.

Oh please do be totally critical! That is absolutely fine by me. I will have a little play around with the gems as I too am not a massive fan. They're a bit too 'blingy' at the moment. I quite like the Damsel one myself, but again, I'm always happy to play with sound effects so I'll make a few of those too!

Actually a few of them don't play. These include pause.wav, land.wav, letsexplore.wav, gspiderjump.wav at least, maybe a few more.

Also click.wav and pfall.wav I'm not sure about. I would guess that pfall.wav should be used when the player falls off the screen, but die.wav is played instead for that.
I'm gonna guess tfall.wav is played at the end of the game. But I'm still working on that! Cheesy

As I've been playing with these sounds I've noticed some of don't really work as well in certain situations, so I've changed some of them as follows.

  • alert.wav - It's fun to have the Metal Gear Solid alert sound, but it becomes horrible when it is played on mass, most noticable in Episode 4 with the Hawkmen.
  • cavemandie.wav - Also used when Yetis die, so lowered the pitch a little.
  • hit.wav - Increased the play speed of this sound a little, it's used for quite a few things like bullets and flies hitting walls, or jumping on enemies heads etc.
  • jetpack.wav - Shortened this sound a bit as it was a bit too much during long flights.
  • laser.wav & lasercharge.wav - Increased volume slightly.
  • mattockbreak.wav - Some gamers may recognise this particular sound!
  • slam.wav - Now that I've finally got to 'a certain level' I know when this is played!
  • throw.wav - Play speed increased ever so slightly.
  • zombie.wav - Play speed increased also, when there are lots of them, this sound is again quite hectic to listen to!

If anyone has any suggestions to this pack please let me know! I love working with sound effects and always endeavour to get things sounding 'just right'!

Hello Spelunky fans!

I decided to bash together some realistic sound effects for one of my favorite games of all time!

Obviously Spelunky works very well with 8-bit sound effects, but it's nice to have a bit of a change now and then!

There are a couple of sound effects that I haven't yet changed, as I still haven't actually completed the game, so don't quite know when or what plays the sounds!

Credit goes to Unreal Gold for such a wonderful soundtrack!
