Game Maker 8.1 Sauce now available. I guess Moloch can update the Fan Update if he wants.

Someone mentioned my name. I will figure out what this means at a future date. I've had a few drinks.

I tried the original a long time ago and wanted to like it, but it felt too archaic for me to get into. The website claims there is a demo for the new version http://playism-games.com/free-demo-games/  ..but all I can find a download link to a program that checks your pc to see if it can run the game.  Angry
185  Games / Spelunky Classic / Re: how to configure controls? on: July 10, 2012, 03:26:07 AM
Controls can't be configed as far as I know. You can press a and s for bomb and rope I think. And you heal a heart everytime you bring a damsel to the end of the level.

WAT.

Run the file called "config".
Includes setup for custom keyboard and gamepad controls.

The readme probably wasn't updated.. I think an earlier version of the game had configuration options when the game started, then it was moved to a seperate app.

Re: Healing - grab damsel and bring her to exit. She kisses you for +1 health.

Whoa me think someone already did. [http://www.youtube.com/********] derek might want to have a look at this

Look at the videos in the user account. He's a spammer that steals and reposts other people's gaming videos with fake download links that redirect you to online surveys. Please don't give the jerk more hits.

Hehe. Thanks.
No editor in the XBLA version.  Cry

EDIT:
Just added fresh link, "Let's Play Spelunky with the Developer!" to first post.

I tried uploading a picture but i guess the file is too large.

You could upload the image to imgur.com and share the link.

Updated first post, so I'm gonna be a dick and bump it back to the first page.

  • Dice in gambling shop replaced with a Wheel of Fortune style wheel. Thank goodness. Handling the dice was always terrifying.
  • No frozen region.
  • The little alien dudes can jump.
  • In the dark levels there are torch holders on the background walls that you can light with your held torch as you pass by. They can't be picked up.
  • (Not positive on this one, but I thought I saw it happen) You can get a stopped boulder rolling again with an explosion.
  • Pushable explosive crate blocks that will explode at the slightest disturbance.

More evidence sir!

1.
Skip to the 30 minute mark in this video: http://www.twitch.tv/manvsgame/b/323493631 where Derek answers questions from the chat room. Re: Spelunky coming to PC, he says: "I think it's likely, but we don't have any definite plans right now."

2.
Derek and Andy answer questions on Reddit. Derek answers "When/Will it be released for PC?" with "Very good chance of seeing this new version of the game on PC at some point, but no definite date of release. Won't be this year."

It's a treasure room. How is that a bug?

Re: #1
From what i've seen of gameplay, it looks like shopkeepers behave just like the original game, in that they will blame you for ANYTHING that happens to them, so something may have damaged him off screen... for example a monster could have triggered an arrow trap that hit an explosive crate, setting off an explosion that damages the shop.

Can anyone help out here? I'm quite bad at the whole time-zone thing. according to what I found, MANvsGAME's stream will begin in 44 minutes of the time this reply is sent. Is that correct?

It's a.m. in EST right now. You can check here: http://time.is/ET

Another easy way is to ask google what time it is in New York.

Also, thanks for the shoutout, Moloch! The contest was awesome. Entries can be found here:

If you do custom levels at all, PLAY SPELUNKYTROID. It's a faithful remake of the entirety of Metroid 1 in Spelunky, and it is truly immense and jaw dropping.

Great stream. Amazed with the quality of the levels, your gameplay skill, and your patience with some of tough/poorly designed bits.

Most of the entrants were discussing their levels with livebyfoma on Skype as he played the levels for the first time, which was very cool. I was a bit relieved that XBLA footage didn't follow immediately after...I was tired by that time.
