I can't imagine being discouraged over the requests, or wishes of an online option.  In fact, I would be encouraged as it isn't negative feedback, but rather positive.  What is there already is great and my Indie game of the year, but that last little bit would be the online mode - and not just some port of the co-op, but something that really would work.  There are plenty of things that would work.

Hmmm...  I checked back on this, but didn't realize it caused such a reaction.  Anyway, I did look to see if there were other threads, but didn't do a search.  I naturally didn't see any off hand.
Secondly, the Spelunky creators have a lot of imagination, and multiplayer would most certainly be possible with a bit of out-of-the-box thinking.
As for being sick of multiplayer mode requests as some commenters were, well, it's something a lot of people like to do, and it's a smart inclusion in any game, if possible.  What does it matter if it has multiplayer?  You would still be able to play offline.  It would simply be an option, and there's nothing wrong with that.
The multiplayer mode wouldn't really have to be about co-op online, but perhaps embrace the chaotic nature of the game, and make it anything but co-op.  Make it competitive.  As said, there would have to be a different approach to the multiplayer aspect - a new angle - something that uses the strengths of the game.  It would be a lot of fun.  There are already different skins for the main character, random levels.  All one would need is a goal for competitive multiplayer.
It's not my place to tell them their business, and I don't.  It was, however, a suggestion.

Hello,

First off: great game.  There are many aspects of this that go back to the old days of Commodore/Amiga - something sorely missed in today's games - re-playability, and a bit of fear for your computer life Smiley  Anyway, are there any plans for online multiplayer at all?  Something like that would round off the whole Spelunky experience nicely, and there would have been great opportunities for online rage.

Thanks,

HL
