1  Games / Spelunky Classic / Re: Using Neural Networks in Spelunky? on: September 12, 2012, 09:15:18 AM
One thing that could be implemented as well, provided this ever gets off the ground, is active learning. Basically, the game can "watch" a player play, and try to imitate what the player does in various situations. For example, one thing I do whenever possible is flip-hang over the front of arrow traps. It will trigger the arrow a split second before you start hanging in front of it. The computer would see that I do that, and when I do that, I don't get hurt by the arrow, but when I don't, I will more often get hurt by it.

Where in the source code is the floating?

I thought it always just faced right :0 but that would be something id like to see changed
They fixed the always facing right glitch. That's what allowed this glitch to show up: since it can face both right and left now, you can actually tell that it's not turning with you.
...On closer inspection, rocks do this as well.

(also Valkyrie Profile! sweet)!
Didn't have a PS1 memory card, though, so I never got far past the first boss. Sad
Your missing out then! they are like 2 dollars.
I don't have the game anymore, plus my PS2 broke years ago. And if costs anything more than free, I can't afford it; my family can barely afford food.

For some reason, I've seen fish skeletons drop to the ground upon coming into the unfrozen zone. The water is still there, so the piranha should still be alive, but for some reason, it spontaneously died. Maybe it has something to do with draining water from a different spot?

Now they'll be after you full-force. You better pray that you don't accidentally stumble into the black market... though that would make an interesting page. XD

When you pick up an arrow, the arrow always stays in the direction it was facing when you picked it up, no matter what direction you're facing.

Get to the City of Gold with cape & climbing gloves. Accidentally catch on a wall above a spike block. Die. Cry in frustration.
I was SO CLOSE.

Also, getting stuck against the wall next to Olmec (as in can't move at all but not dead). He jumps up and squishes me by moving sideways. He then proceeds to fall in the lava. Repeat twice in a row. I still have not beaten this game.
12  Games / Spelunky Classic / Re: Running style? on: November 02, 2010, 10:42:13 AM
I think it's a habit I got from always running when playing Super Mario series and similar games on NES/SNES growing up.
This exactly. Although I'm starting to wisen up and slow down whenever there's a tricky jump or the like.

Or just in the frame where you're behind the thrower, you are invincible and don't get crush death'd.
That works too. Are you only behind them for 1 frame?

This makes Spelunky incredibly easy... maybe have an inventory item for Thunder (limited uses, like bombs) and make Thundershock shorter range?
And like everyone's said, assigning Thunder to a different key would be awesome.
15  Games / Source / Re: My First Mod (Suggestions for new Area) on: October 27, 2010, 08:16:23 AM
A sky area would make no sense whatsoever in a cave.... but would be cool to see anyhow.
Since when do jungles grow hundreds of feet underground? Cheesy In the context of this silly game, it would fit perfectly~

I said sky and desert, but metal might be cool too.
