Title: What are you listening to?
Post by: Kirby on February 21, 2010, 10:19:24 PM
What music or songs do you like to listen to? You can post links to the videos too, if you'd like!

Some songs I've been listening to lately: Halfway Gone, Live Like You're Dying, Hungry Like The Wolf, Nine In The Afternoon, That Green Gentleman, Rocky Raccoon, Out of the Frying Pan and Into the Fire, American Pie, and some of Jon Schmidt's songs.

Nine In The Afternoon (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yCto3PCn8wo)
That Green Gentleman (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3f3K2sEHuIM)
Those are both by Panic at the Disco if you want to know.

I remember Nine In the Afternoon, good song.

Pop, Hip Hop R&B, Owl City, "feel good" acoustic stuff, alternative...
Pretty much anything that isn't country or gangsta rap.

Latest favorite: United State of Pop 2009 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iNzrwh2Z2hQ)

EDIT: Paramore is good too!

I generally have a few playlists full of music from Overclocked Remix (http://ocremix.org/)

In the car though I've been rotating from Dio, older Black Sabbath, and Dead Kennedys. But you guys are too young to know about any of that, right?  ;)

I don't really like anything new, as in from the last 20 years, in particular. So I'm weird. :P

It's not really spamming :(

But I really do LOVE classical music... that's the point of this topic right?

Yes. But it's spamming when you go

Over and over again. Just say "I like to listen to clasiccal, anything classical is great."

Verdi's Requiem has been stuck in my head lately (have to sing movements 1 and 4 for All-City).
Tom Waits, anything, and his album Glitter and Doom Live has this amusing 40 min segment where he talls stories/jokes to the audience.
Les Miserables, namely the 10th anniversary album.
Rie Fu, naturally mainly her songs in english.
Tiffany Randol, though I only know 3 sond's of hers.
Sara Schiralli, as good as the previous one.
Zooey Deschanel, as good as the prior 2.

And some other choral pieces that i've been practicing for Singing City (and also All-City) are stuck in my head due to how good they sound when performed:
How Can I keep From Singing?
Signs Of Judgement
It's A Grand Night For Singing.
Cantate Domino.
maybe some others, but if so I haven't listenedd to them lately (as oppossed to all the rest of this list which I make sure listen to a majority of it daily).

I don't know why, but I have created a habit for keeping my speakers off unless I am watching a video.... is the Spelunky boss music good?

Title: Re: What are you listening to?

I like it, at least. Can't say for the others.

The boss music is fairly good, but it doesn't hold up well to lots of replays

I listen to nothing. Nothing besides the stuff other people (like parents, teachers, peopel that actually have authority over me) want me to listen to. Sometimes I take suggestions, but all that "new" music people listen to nowadays is just random repetititititititive junk. It's all about love these days in this dystopia.

Title: Re: What are you listening to?

Hear hear, I agree.... the new music nowadays is complete junk, especially rap (UGH)

Exactly. And I don't know really what genre to put those other music. (Pop?)

Post by: Dudemaster on February 24, 2010, 08:50:28 PM
I am listening to my good ol' playlist. Which mostly consists of Oasis and Beatles song (cut the criticism, Oasis may have been unoriginal, but at least it was great). I barely listen to pop nowadays, because, even though it is the most diverse genre, I feel like many pop songs just sound annoying, to my ears at least.

I like folk rock quite a bit as well. OK, I have mainly listened to Mumford & Sons, but they are amazing, and I consider myself a fan. (YouTube it, can't be bothered to link - A couple of their great songs are The Cave and Winter Winds)

I like Biffy Clyro, it's one of the best upcoming rock bands in my opinion, although I am not into rock as much as I used to be.

Used to listen to lots of rave music in the (late)2006-(early)2009 time period. Then I just got over all the partying and excitement. I am still totally into electro-pop though. Dizzee Rascal is my hero, I have 3 of his songs into my penultimate playlist, which is quite an achievement, since only tend to have about 30 songs in my penultimate playlist, which also rarely changes.

Rap? Not so much. Hip-Hop? Only the more mature kind, like Jay-Z's.

But... yeah. Not much else to say about that.

There's a program that looks at underground music on BBC Radio 1, and it puts on some awesome beats, some really weird but cool mixes, even epic ones(seriously) from Holland, which is in fact, my latest music venture.

I am now listening to this epic song from Space Jam: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uiy2AV43gZo

It's officially one of my favorite non video game songs.
I watched Space Jam for the first time today. It was okay, sadly I didn't watch this as a kid. :/ I did listen to the soundtrack though. Long live the 90's.
