Hate having to start over every time you take it to a new computer? No worries! Just update to the community update, or 1.3! Or you can use DariusK's HTML5 version (http://tinysubversions.com/game/spelunky/)! Or you can use Spelunky Portable (http://mossmouth.com/forums/index.php?topic=1219.0)!

Holy crap that's a lot of mods!
But don't worry! Just use the
Spelunky Launcher! (http://mossmouth.com/forums/index.php?topic=889.0)

Sweet!  We should get this stickied next time Derek's in the neighborhood.

Would you like us to notify you of updates in this topic, or would you rather just keep up with the threads outside?

Title: Re: The Spelunky Modification Compendium
Post by: marsgreekgod on February 16, 2010, 10:57:42 PM

I think Lonely Spelunky counts as a small change. 3 lines of code where added. Oh wait make that 5 with music effect

Title: Re: The Spelunky Modification Compendium
Post by: halibabica on February 16, 2010, 11:40:09 PM
Well, it's a small change, but it had a big impact on the game.  Having no enemies appear is a major difference, I would say!

Also, these should be alphabetized or something.  Organization ftw.

Title: Re: The Spelunky Modification Compendium
Post by: Kegluneq on February 17, 2010, 12:49:02 AM
Yea I was going to get more organized later. Possibly even now!
Maybe, just maybe add a short summary too.

Since these links lead to the actual mod thread itself, any updates shouldn't make much of a difference, but I'm always here on the Source sub-forum and I'll be looking out for anything new and such anyway.

Ahh... thanks... this should be STICKIED NOW!!!

Title: Re: The Spelunky Modification Compendium
Post by: AresRomanGod on February 18, 2010, 03:55:12 PM
Too bad I can't sticky it for you. I don't have power over this part of mossmouth.

Title: Re: The Spelunky Modification Compendium
Post by: ipwnu1337 on February 18, 2010, 04:03:56 PM
That seems like a job for.... well, I don't know.

Title: Re: The Spelunky Modification Compendium
Post by: gummybears123 on February 18, 2010, 04:04:31 PM
Derek should promote someone to BOSSY MOSSY in this section

Title: Re: The Spelunky Modification Compendium
Post by: AresRomanGod on February 18, 2010, 04:12:24 PM
If he hasn't yet, it's probably because he doesn't see anybody fit to oversee it. (Mostly because he doesn't check this part of the forums much, I think.)

Title: Re: The Spelunky Modification Compendium
Post by: gummybears123 on February 18, 2010, 04:28:10 PM
Then YOU should.... ask Derek

Title: Re: The Spelunky Modification Compendium
Post by: AresRomanGod on February 18, 2010, 04:44:44 PM
And what if he feels there's no need to have one here?

Title: Re: The Spelunky Modification Compendium
Post by: ipwnu1337 on February 18, 2010, 04:52:20 PM
Promotation to global mod?

Title: Re: The Spelunky Modification Compendium
Post by: Kegluneq on February 18, 2010, 06:01:00 PM
I asked Derek, he said that there is currently not much need for any other mods since we have such a small community. However, he will find new mods should it get to the point where he DOES need more mods.

Mod potential.

...I really need to make a mod soon, now that Gummy has GMPro.
Wow. I'm really bad at this, but I felt as if I got a lot better.

I don't yet... I said (s)he's gonna give it to me soon

Who, you mean ipwnu1337? (Yes, confirmation, I did NOT use a non-virtual name. Even though I was tempted too.)

And even still. And I posted my Encryption mod, by the way!
Yes!

Sudonimus: 1
Gummybears: 0, Nada, Goose Egg.

EDIT: I almost posted my non-virtual name. Oh dear lord.

Coolio, I'll update in a sec.

Title: Re: The Spelunky Modification Compendium
Post by: Sudonimus on February 21, 2010, 05:52:37 PM
What would it be? All I really changed is some graphics, some things with the title message...
Such as...
Changing the Shoppy's name to "Mr. Yu"
Making the Shoppy's saturation darker
Changing the color of the arrow traps (accidental)
Title message
What else...?

Title: Re: The Spelunky Modification Compendium
Post by: Kegluneq on February 21, 2010, 09:19:37 PM
Hm. I should add a new section to the mods: Skins.

Your mod would fall under that category.

Ipwn's very forgetful so he keeps forgetting to give it to me, and I'm working on a big mod, but I need pro to test it

Morality and Heart of Encryption mod added.
Until further evidence of moddedness, HoE is going under tiny mods.

Should I make honorable mentions to the more popular mods? If so, what mods do you guys want me to take special note of?

Title: Re: The Spelunky Modification Compendium
Post by: MagiMaster on February 25, 2010, 01:59:52 PM
I don't care much about popularity, but you might want to mention which version each mod is at, or at least mark finished mods.

Title: Re: The Spelunky Modification Compendium
Post by: Sudonimus on February 25, 2010, 06:08:32 PM
Don't rush; but yeah. Go with Magi.

And isn't my mod a skin?

And isn't my mod a skin?
Is it? I was wondering if there were any hidden features.

Most mods posted here are in a finished or at least very playable state.
But maybe I'll add versions later if I feel like it.

I should try playing it.
I never played the executable.
I'm so great, aren't I? [!] <This means Sarcasm, right?

Just a little bump to tell ya'll that this hasn't been abandoned, and the new mods that have been out the past week are being added as they appear.

How do you make these links without using the URL?

Title: Re: The Spelunky Modification Compendium
Post by: Kegluneq on February 27, 2010, 06:20:57 PM
use the [url] tags.

[ url=linky link ] blah blah text blah [ /url ]

kill the spaces next to the brackets.

It needs a section for config edits. Like your launcher.

Title: Re: The Spelunky Modification Compendium
Post by: Kegluneq on February 28, 2010, 12:52:41 AM
Things like my launcher are pretty uncommon. I'll add them as I see fit if anymore come out.

Gummy keeps making so many hero mods, I'm just gonna put them all here with a "Hero Mods" link replacing them on the first post.

HERO MODS
Human Torch (http://mossmouth.com/forums/index.php?topic=925.0)
Iron Man Mod (http://mossmouth.com/forums/index.php?topic=920.0)
Magneto Mod (http://mossmouth.com/forums/index.php?topic=886.0)
Spider-Man Mod (http://mossmouth.com/forums/index.php?topic=881.0)

A new section JUST FOR ME?

No..... you didn't have to........

How about a SPACE MODS section?

Title: Re: The Spelunky Modification Compendium
Post by: Kegluneq on March 04, 2010, 09:13:50 PM
Actually, since all your space mods are on the same thread, there's just one "Space Mods" link that goes there.

So yes. That section is pretty much just for you, but I may add others like the Mario mod there.

Title: Re: The Spelunky Modification Compendium

Now, I stop making more and update the current ones....

(IRON MAN WILL BE A MATCH FOR TASTES LIKE SPELUNKY!............... one day )

Title: Re: The Spelunky Modification Compendium
Post by: Kegluneq on March 09, 2010, 12:51:16 AM
Tastes Like Spelunky gets its own section 'cause its so friggin epic!

I love how we actually have a history to these mods. Someone should make a timeline.

EDIT:
Wow, so many mods with such great potential are starting to appear!
TLS truly has marked a turning point in modding as we know it!

I may do a complete overhaul on the category system. As the lines between each category are beginning to blur.

This is more of a bump then anything.

This is why the Spelunky section needs mods. To sticky stuff like this..

And also, the forums have sort-of been getting worse..

Title: Re: The Spelunky Modification Compendium
Post by: Sudonimus on March 20, 2010, 07:49:51 PM
Well, there are more people joining.
It gets less manageable that way.

ANd this SHOULD get stickied.

Title: Re: The Spelunky Modification Compendium

It was created with sticky intent.

Oh and also: I'm back! New York was awesome, and serious development and following of new mods being released will resume.

During the trip, I only concentrated on the multi-player thread, so if there were any new mods released, please notify me.

They aren't finished yet, I think that's why he didn't put them up.

If you see on the list Endless Spelunky, theres not even an actual release yet.

If we are talking about the same thing(Considering I'm talking about my own mod) the current release is not only broken, but the link doesn't work, I only released that to show off what had happened.

EDIT: Oh I see. He changed it.

Spelunatic has been added. Spelunky Unlimited to major changes (Sorry, but it's not quite that epic yet.)

Oh yea sure. I really like that one too, the inventory thing is great.

EDIT:
Short and Longer Spelunky added.
New section "Length Changing" added and existing mods moved as necessary.
Section "Epic Mods" renamed to "Great Mods"
The Spelunky 1.2 Project added under Great Mods (Epic doesn't fit the description, however it is a noble idea and deserves to be distinct from the ever growing lists.

Title: Re: The Spelunky Modification Compendium
Post by: Kegluneq on November 05, 2010, 06:58:44 PM
Fixed, and while I was looking for it, found a couple others that weren't on the list as well

Magneto Mod added
SpelunKi added
Spelunky Cave Inn added
Rainbow Dimensions added
Corpse Mod added
Frantic Spelunky added
Spelunky Relaxation added
Section name "Major Changes" renamed to "Gameplay Changing"

Also, how would y'all feel if I took out the word Spelunky in the titles? (except for ones that make clever word-play like SpelunKi)
It's obvious that these are all mods for Spelunky, and it would reduce clutter and help make things more readable.

Also, the Magic Signs is up now too. I haven't tried it out yet, where do y'all think it should go?

Title: Re: The Spelunky Modification Compendium

One (with GM and the know-how) could easily make a ninja mod by ripping all the ninja suit stuff out of TLS.

The trouble with alternate character mods is that, for them to be really good, you have to go all-out with the theme.  Different sprites, different abilities, items, the whole bit.  For some things, you can get away with nullifying global variables (global.hasNinjaSuit = trueAllTheTime), but it can be quite an undertaking.

Title: Re: The Spelunky Modification Compendium

Hmm...there aren't too many girls around here.  Don't let my username ending in 'a' fool you, either.  I'm a dude.  He's a dude.  She's a dude.  'CUZ WE'RE ALL DUDES, HEY-

And yes, changing all the character sprites is part of what makes alternate character mods such a pain.

Considering the fact that there isn't much action(not relatively, however. For the number of people who post, it's rather active here), I decided to hang around here too, as it doesn't take much to check one more forum.  :P

Polaris: I realise that the battle is probably already over, but I urge you once more to give it a try.
Heck, if I hadn't decided to spend all my savings on that C# book a few years back, there's no way I'd be where I am at the moment, which is heading for professional independant game development.
Programming sucks, period.
Ideas, worlds, images, techniques, designs, music, characters, puzzles, animations, models, stories, collaboration, recognition, These things are all worth putting in the hard yards, even if you never get to the point where you can make something, it will enable you to be a part of the great dance that is games!

Spelunky Relaxation and Spelunki don't have anything released despite being on the list. And Magneto mod is there twice, once in gameplay changing and once in hero mods.

Also slightly off topic but Mushrooms, Save State / Slow-mo, Dark Caves and No Action Button don't currently have a working download link.

This threads only purpose is to link to mods. It is the mod creator's job to keep their links up to date, although I guess I shouldn't of linked threads that didn't even have any downloads to begin with.

As for help, look at the very first thread on this page, the Game Maker Help Thread (http://mossmouth.com/forums/index.php?topic=586.0)

EDIT:
"Always Something" mod added (New Features)
Also serves as a reason to bump this back to the first page.

EDIT AGAIN:
I don't know which one of you lovely souls did it, but I love that the wikipedia page for Spelunky (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spelunky#Other_Versions) links to this thread, and the "significant or popular mods" are the ones I've either listed separate from the others, or under the "awesome" category.
Thank you very much.

In order of list, but only going over ones i know

  • Editor+: 4 out of 5 (A great mod for people who make/play a lot of custom levels, but it feels like its mostly just fixing a feature that the vanilla was lacking in)
  • TLS: 5 (Great change to the vanilla game, added tons of content and totally changed the normal play style without deviating too much or becoming unblanaced)
  • Lonely Spelunky: 3.5 (Alone its nice but could use some tweakage for improvement)
  • More Spelunky: 3 (It was a nice change, but it couldve been expanded upon more)
  • YASM: 4 (It's a great settings mod, but like Editor+ it feels like it shouldve been in the vanilla)
  • Casual: 4 (Its a neat little mod for those who arent great at the game, or if you just want to mess around without worrying about dying)
  • Crowded: 4 (It's just really fun in a chaotic sort of way)
  • Invincible: 3 (It's an okay cheat mod but its hardly deserving of that name, still the item spawning is fun and it makes for a good trainer)
  • Spelunatic: 4 (BOMBS ARE SURPRISINGLY FUN)
  • TLS Booms: 4 (One of my favorite mods, which is why I keep bugging Mars to work on it)
  • Full Level Viewer: 4 (Another one of my favorites, but it sorta has its specific uses that most people might not need)
  • SiaR: 4 (While I personally dont use it very often its great for what it is, a very endearing and complete reskin that roguelike fans will love)
  • Portable: 4.5 (While it might seem like a small change to some, this mod fixes one thing that jut drives me crazy about games and programs in general, this is the way that every spelunky mod should save)

So those are my opinions on some of the mods, im noticing that a lot of them seem like they shouldve been in the vanilla to begin with, I begin to wonder if we should just roll them all up into a Vanilla+ mod

Oh cool, I actually have enough votes to make a reliable rating system now. It'll take a while though so don't expect anything too soon.

These ratings are based on quality. If a mod is supposed to annihilate you, then give it credit as one.

We're just looking out for the rating system. If a rating is pulled down because someone doesn't like it, as opposed to it simply not being good, well then it kind of ruins it for others as well.

Title: Re: The Spelunky Modification Compendium
Post by: halibabica on August 12, 2011, 02:50:34 PM
You do realize that defeats the purpose of having a rating system, right?

Ratings are essentially opinions, and those opinions will likely be formed based on enjoyment.  It would be expected that quality and fun factor are positively correlated, but in a case like Evil Death Spelunky, the player might not appreciate how much effort was put into it because they didn't enjoy the end result.

Regulating this would be too much of a task.  If you see a rating you don't agree with, maybe you should ask why they gave it that rating instead of just complaining about it.

Oh Mars

Anyway, it would be nice if there was some sorta program or application to auto-tally those votes for keg, how exactly are you going to go about comparing votes? Also are you going to keep track of how many votes were given per mod? I figure that would help in rating things since if a mod got an average of 4 per 20 votes it would obviously be more trustworthy of a rating then say if a mod got a 4 based on 5 votes, I mean two of five people couldve rated it a five where the other three couldve rated it a lot less, am I making sense?

Also, Spelunky Relaxed isn't a released mod -- or even a mod in development.  It's mostly a complaint/debate thread.

Also Magneto Mod has it's own listing as well as appearing under the Hero Mods.

1. there's a thread post in the TLS thread of that works
2. I honestly think a translation deserves a separate category from skins, I mean, a regular graphical skin is essentially useless where as a translation isnt

1. Blehhh too many posts in the TLS thread. Link?

2. I thought the same, but it's the only translation mod out there. Although I think I vaguely recall there being a japanese translation somewhere out there?
I'll make a special mention for it (the german one that is).

Also, Cavestory reskin added under SKINS!

I can't believe I forgot to add these, they're so important!

Spelunky 1.1 for Mac added under COMPATIBILITY and GLOBALIZATION
Spelunky 1.0 for Mac added under COMPATIBILITY and GLOBALIZATION
(It may be more stable than 1.1, need someone to verify)
Ease of Use moved to COMPATIBILITY and GLOBALIZATION
German Translation moved to COMPATIBILITY and GLOBALIZATION

Oh yea, and I made a new section called COMPATIBILITY and GLOBALIZATION

And yea, I moved Pacifist to GAMEPLAY CHANGING, he has a point.

Spelunky Breakdown: http://mossmouth.com/forums/index.php?topic=2874.0

Darius K's HTML5 version: http://tinysubversions.com/game/spelunky/

idyll's Spelunky 1.3 (Mac/Win): http://mossmouth.com/forums/index.php?topic=2769.0

Rename 'Spelunky 1.2 Project' in list to 'Spelunky Community Update Project' to avoid confusion with idyll's version?

Spelunky Portable is obsolete - those features exist in 1.3 and 1.2/Community Update and any mods based on them...list or mark portable mods for ppl looking for them somehow?

There's a Spelunky Source Help Thread for this kinda question but I'll go ahead and answer it anyway!

In the characters folder, there is an object called oBullet. Under the oCharacer collision event, there is a line that says
Code:
global.plife -= 4;
near the top. Change that 4 to a 1 and you're done!

You do but he thought that you already had it and didn't know how to change it

What 'evs  I went ahead and made it
Introducing SPELUNKY BULLETPROOF (https://www.dropbox.com/home?select=BulletNerf.exe)
No you're not really bulletproof the bullets are just nerfed to one damage, although it makes shoppies almost bulletproof as it takes a shitton of bullets to kill them now

That's very kind and generous of you, thank you. But the link just sends me to my dropbox profile with the name of the file in the address bar.

Mega Spelunky added to Gameplay Changing.

I'm ashamed to admit that I didn't get that it was an obvious Megaman shout-out until I was almost done adding it to the list :(

EDIT: So was Spelunky Natural (Added to Gameplay Changing that is, not a Megaman reference)

So just bought Spelunky from the Steam sale and can't seem to get any of the mods to work. I put the .exe's in the steam/steamapps/spelunky folder and try to run them but they all give me the same error:

 (FATAL ERROR in
action number 1
of Create Event
for object oMusic:

Unable to initialize music/sound. The supersound.dll file is missing from the game folder. Please check your installation.)

But this file isn't in my Spelunky folder so I was just wondering if I'm putting this in the wrong place or what?

These mods are for Spelunky Classic only. These will not work in the HD version.
Mods for the HD version can be found here (http://mossmouth.com/forums/index.php?topic=3592.0), though they are texture, music and text mods only(not gameplay changing).

Hello, just putting it up here that I have made a mod called Spelunky - The Lost Update:

Heres something to change the title screen to something a bit more vulgar/immature.
Just rename the .png to mossmouth.png over the original and release your inner giggling 12 year old.

But that's in the Spelunky Classic board. This list only contains mods for HD.

Sorry, I don't think I can accept a mod that insults the video game developer's name.

Blaze, wrong forum.

Losing marbles just like Halibabica?

He thought my mod was somewhere else, now you're thinking that this is the HD forum.

No one loses their marbles quite like me.

But yeah, forum location aside, that does seem like pretty poor taste.

For a moment, I was actually thinking that I lost my marbles.

Now when I notice it, I thought it was the HD forum because Buglamo posted a mod for the HD version here. So, I guess this was a confusion.

We just need to be patient, after all, it takes a while to update these things.
Patience is a virtue, something like that.

I'm tired of updating the HD ones.
