green scarabs eat your fleash, and stone frogs have no blood I coded it that way.

Did you copy the levels folder Mario? I tried making a level with another mod and it wouldn't save, just went to the win screen until I made a levels folder.
Downloading it now, I'll try it in a bit.

Much harder, and I still despise snakes more than anything! Now I understand that level feeling completely! I'm messing with the shopkeeper mod, but I'll try to do a video if I can get halfway decent at this.

Oh there is a hidden object in the level editor.

put Q in a map in a text editor. It makes it like testkey2, (IE, all bad guys are super versions)

Bug: Ending a level with negative gold (due to green scarabs) will make the game hang during the between levels screen.

Bug: Mummy flies travel so quickly that they sometimes clip through blocks. This bug was present in the previous version as well, but I didn't think to mention it.

I don't think I like the new super death monkeys. My idea was to make you scared of monkeys and have to carefully take care of them, since in a regular game I don't consider them any kind of threat and literally just run through them. As it is, the super death monkeys are a pretty solid wall of death, and usually force me to bomb another route through the stage.

I don't like the red mummy either, since it cannot be manipulated in any way. With the regular mummy I can often think of absurd ways to get past it without death, but the red mummy never pauses to give me a chance to do anything.

Also, something in the ice caves was seemingly ignoring the frozen area and spewing fireballs at me from way off screen. I'll look more into this.

Loving the new super frogs. Quite the surprise when I first jumped on one.

And since when super UFO lasers do that. I've have to do some testing to see how this affects playability.

Answer: make gold never go negative. got it.

Super monkeys causing death instantly on contact is fine. The issue is that they are too fast and resilient to avoid or kill. My suggestion would be to make their statistics identical to regular monkeys aside from the insta-death thing. The means normal monkey movement and 1hp. Still a huge threat, especially when you are busy dealing with vampire bats and doom frogs, but not an insurmountable wall of death.

It's not usless! it can still stops falling damage AND get you up three spaces AND let you go like 1.5 time as long on jumps if you use it right.

Well, if the cape goes the same speed, you can go far distances and you can change direction and still be safe, while if it went faster....

The best way is with a shotgun. Or a pistol works VERY well.

Not sure how to fix the fireball attacks, I look into it thanks.

There is still ways to get out of everything. I have yet to see something I couldn't get out of, unless I just ran foreword randomly. You need to play this game slowly, the ghost is not as much a danger as everything, and you can avoid any trick I put in there.

I haven't checked if this has been reported already or not, but there seems to be a bug that if you leave with a negative cash total for the level, it hangs in the tunnel between levels. (At least, that seems to be the cause, since I don't think anything else interesting happened.)

Darn, I am out out-numbered here. I really kept this toned down a lot and in most cases I have seen you can't run into something where you can't win...

Its not a "you can't win" thing, Spelunkys a hard game, but its fair, its not trying to kill you but its not holding your hand either.
Your mod would sooner put a sticky bomb in your hand and push you into a pit of Spikes that are on fire before it would work with you and not against you. Let alone do it for you.

And while that is true, my above point kinda states what I mean.

But what I am saying is I did a lot of testing to make sure that there was never a place where you couldn't win, only it being hard to win. If I failed in some way let me know and don't just be vague about it.

I think it just takes an amount of patience and precision above the original source. Obviously most of us played Spelunky the first few times and thought, "This is freaking impossible!". But after a while you get used to the traps, the enemies and so on and realize it just takes some expertise, I guess you would call it. Personally, I don't enjoy enhanced difficulty in games and generally play the normal mode even the second time around, but a lot of people want the added challenge and welcome it. So there is a place for us to enjoy the original, screw you when it can Spelunky, and those that enjoy the screw you at every chance ED Spelunky.  :)

Disagreed for once. Sorry Darkness, I think this mod is really quite fair. If you can't handle the heat, get out of the kitchen I always say. Some of the recent updates *COUGHSUPERMONKEYSCOUGH* make me die, but there's never a situation where it's totally unfair. Use your wits, "Don't be afraid to die. But don't be afraid to live either! Happy Spelunky-ing!"

A gun does 100 damage per shot, then it does 25 damage per shot. (not in spelunky just saying randomly)

That would NERF the gun.

A money jumps at 12 speed, then it jumps at 5
It is nerfed.

I had a nice run from the start up to level 15 earlier today where I killed three super monkeys on my way. With my whip. They are still ridiculous though and definitely need to be nerfed.

I think some changes need to be made to the temple to enhance playability, but I'm still not sure what. I'll think about it some more during my next play session.

I also finally beat the tutorial. With the Spelunker, of course. The very end requires quite a bit of luck.

good job! as soon as I think of a few more things to change I well update,  fixing monkeys (and upgrading normal monkeys a bit) and fixing fireballs, as well as updating shop keeps.

After some thought, I've come to the conclusion that removing the invulnerability of the super cultists in the temple might increase playability significantly. In fact, I think that they should be susceptible to the whip.

How did you get that far?

By knowing which items to prioritize picking up early on. I always buy items rather than steal, and go out of my way to pick up relatively safe money in the early stages. This is the general order of importance:

The cape is a godsend, but I'd often rather buy several of the items below than just pick up the cape, as the cape loses most of its usefulness in the temple.

The compass is essential for the ice caves, as the crazy UFOs and yetis don't give you the chance to think about what direction you should be heading in.

Stocking up on as many bombs as possible is good, they help in side stepping nearly impossible situations in the jungle and especially the temple.

Spike shoes can be helpful, but I'm still evaluating their overall usefulness.

I make it a point to always have a rock with me. They are important for setting off arrow traps and doom frogs. I swap them for damsels, since damsels serve most of the same purposes in a pinch with the added bonus of giving +1 HP at level end.

Doing all this + adding my skill makes the first three areas surmountable, but the temple in its current state is pretty luck intensive.

Based on what you think of tastes like booms, I am kinda suprized you didn't say anything about gates of hell/evil death

Hey Mars, guess what I just found, I was going through the levels in my Mods folders and found a file called "Terror".

It turns out I made a level for Evildeath when I first downloaded it, and I just picked it up and edited, there was a nearly impossible jump at the beginning and the rest of it was pretty easy considering everything. I feel I've balanced it better, you still have 99 health so it shouldn't be hard for a skilled player, but the insta-deaths are a problem ~(e w e ~)

I just played it. After playing gates of hell so much, I had forgotten just how messed up I made evil death.

gates of hell will be much better, a little easier or harder.

biased on what spawns

The level is nice, a little simple. I would like you to make a level in gates of hell. the fact that you can make bad guys evil/good/normal helps a lot. also jaws is way to easy in your level.

i was trying to see if TestKey would work in the editor plus, i dont think it does i could be wrong (/o<0)/

I kind of plan on revamping testkey for use with editor plus, and host it on my site if thats okay? Ill leave it so that the credit still shows you made it, ill just leave a tiny line on the entry for it that says i converted it, this is fine yes?

Edit: woops forgot to mention, this is the level that inspired terror, I really like it for some reason lol

I don't know what to say about it, its definitely harder, but I don't know if its hard enough. Comments on that if you please, I might be looking at it through developer's eyes which makes every level seem I make seem easier, but all of the forumgoers are pretty hardcore at this game so I might not be the only one who thinks so. A note about it, I tried to include a save-trap like one of my Knytt stories levels but I couldn't get it to work. The save trap is supposed to have you run to a save spot under a fall/crush/whatever trap but the falling spikes move too fast in this so if you die you respawn and die again.

On a sorta unrelated note, I think you'd like my Knytt levels.

d(e w e  d) I watched my girlfriend play that part, funniest thing ever, shes better then me at most games too

Rightmost of the pic you can see the Savetrap, there's also a lot of popout spikes you cant see. I'm off topic though, posting Knytt in the Spelunky forums, that like posting Anime in /co/

I don't remember you asking that! sorry I must of missed it. You made an edit of text key? what? I don't know what you mean, but you can do anything you like with evil death.
