Title: Music packs!
Post by: marsgreekgod on December 18, 2009, 07:54:24 PM
Tired of the music of spelunky? want new sounds? change it up here! Post new sound packs! See what people think, if you want your sound back to normal and don't want to start over, just download the starting sounds, I posed here. the other two are sound packs of some songs I like...

Starting sounds:

Epic and or silly for this game:

Did you make the music, or is it from another game? The epic/silly one isn't working.

Post by: marsgreekgod on December 18, 2009, 08:53:07 PM
It isn't? I give it a test, and I stole it from games.

What games, and it won't work for me?

No your right, It worked before, with other songs, but not this one. And saddly I don't know which games, I kinda have a lot of games that I take music from, so... I can try to look it up if you really want me to.

Death Smiles was good, but some of the tracks don't fit quite right, chiefly the Ice Caves one.

That game doesn't have any... icey music, sadly.

You guys can make these things to you know? that was the idea here.

I assume just naming it the corresponding title and um...having it an ogg file is enough?

I assumed as much, and your title track was inspiring me to find some, mostly castlevania themes though. Still searching for some really good ones.

I can't remember to well, but maybe the Zelda games, nes/snes/gba/gb/etc. have some good music for the ice levels they had. Though I can only recall Link To The Past really having an ice place.

It seem you need an converter to turn mp3s into oggs and get them to work, http://www.audio-converter.com/download.htm this is the first thing google came up with.

Audacity also converts mp3, ogg, and wav files and is free. Also records, which is why I got it.

Song for Title. Butttttt, I had to redownload everything, now have to find which tracks I was using. And now learned that the ones I was testing don't seem to work. Any idea why?

Did you use the conveter? (audacity seems a lot better?) did you use the same names as the one the game normal uses? (I copy and paste just in case)

yeah, just silence though. I've been downloading them from youtube, using various sites, one of them atumatically converted to ogg. Here's the links to what I used if anyone can do better, seeing as how I'm not the most tech savvy:

Cave: either http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tKYisJg89Ag&fmt=18 or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qX_IMGd9zHA

Lush: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0WArWo_FwGY&feature=related

Ice: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Kn6QEi2gXw&feature=related

Temple:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tt0XHAlB6-Q&fmt=18

Boss: Lost whichever was my actual boss theme, but it could be this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lHeB_spsNK8 , this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JaRn1WCVIlY , or even http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yoQex8CB9eA&feature=related  though just as likely none of them

@marsgreekgod: don't want to sound a party pooper, but you want to be careful uploading other game music, esp' if they're commercial games (not because they're more important, but because they're most likely to follow up with legalities)

You may a very good point, and duly noted. To be honest, I highly dought any real harm well come of it, I have don't want you to steal this music (I got my music as normal free music or bought it and uploaded it) and I am simply saying what a great game it is to have such good music, and that you should buy it!

I don't think that'll be much of an issue since we are neither claiming it as our own, nor redistributing a version of the game with said music replacing the original.
Since all we're doing is some fun music swapping, it should be alright.

If it makes you feel better I can steal music of newgrounds, that music's fair game.

Not sure if Glennrieck got this working or not yet, but
Allright, I know it's been a while but I haven't been on for a couple days. Anyway, I've recorded, converted, and tested these and they have worked fine for me. The title is a little soft, but the rest work pretty well (although the lost woods seems a little out of place). But check them out Glennriecks Music pack (http://www.box.net/shared/51csydikjv)
They go well with this sound set also Dirk's Halloween Sounds (http://mossmouth.com/forums/index.php?topic=209.0).

If anyone is interested, it seems Audacity has a problem converting sound from MP4 files, I had to use Wavepad which worked very nicely.

Thanks, I hadn't been able to get them to work yet.  I wasn't sure what would feel right. Lush was the hardest to find so I just gave up and clicked something in my history till I found Something woodsy. The result was good enough for me.

Took most of the day, then I found out Box.net has a file size limit, Yay! So now Mediafire hosts these for me. Each is a themed arrangement so pick whichever you like. There is also a lite, and a normal version of each. The lite contains just the .ogg files, while the normal has the MP3 versions as well. Further explained below...

Classic, total classic (http://www.mediafire.com/?3ejjzmldua1)
Classic, total classic -Lite (http://www.mediafire.com/?tigkkjmtqmy)
This set is full of music from classic games, from Metroid to Mega Man

Robot Drac (http://www.mediafire.com/?mytjqtzinom)
Robot Drac-Lite (http://www.mediafire.com/?wyty3mzxztn)
This set is a cross of Konami and Capcom music

Spelunker's Story (http://www.mediafire.com/?zmy1vmgo1hy)
Spelunker's Story-Lite (http://www.mediafire.com/?gkyignt5myk)
This is strictly remixes of Pixel's Cave Story music

Please note I did not create any of the music above, merely put the collection together. Included in each file is a text document from which you can read the installation instructions (if needed), find the original songs and more.

Edit: I should probably mention the difference in size right? Well the large versions are about 40mb and the small are around half that. They're pretty big, I wouldn't recommend trying to get them all at once.

Title: Re: Music packs!
Post by: Arucard on December 22, 2009, 07:10:57 AM
A nice change for custom music would be to keep it from stopping between levels. It should only stop from one area to the next. When I was trying to decide which music to use, I just had all my selections playing in the background with the Spelunky music off. I may just play it that way from now on.

Yeah, that's why we need to fix it so you can hear the music in-between levels. Does the ghost automatically pitch shift whatever music is playing? I didn't even think about that.

Convert the song to an OGG file, and name it EXACTLY the same as the file corresponding level. lush, cave, title, ice, boss, temple are tthe names.

Okay, I have a bunch of 'em for you here!

Castle Crashers (http://www.mediafire.com/?rvnm1gtz4nz)
Cave Story (http://www.mediafire.com/?yzntegm5urj)
Chrono Trigger (http://www.mediafire.com/?jzkdnn2jnnd)

Super Mario Bros. (http://www.mediafire.com/?wm2yeewzzgz)
Super Mario RPG (http://www.mediafire.com/?4dhkttz2nwj)

I highly recommend the Cave Story and Faxanadu packs.  It's like they were made for the game!  I might compile more, but it's a pain in the butt looping them all and such.

Hope you like 'em!

The music loops automatically though, you can just cut it where you want the song to start over.

Additionally, I want to request here a mod to take the break of music inbetween levels of the same area. So we can have longer songs that will stretch between four levels. :)

I'm gonna try Hal's music, I really liked Faxanadu!

Holy Crap! Guys, I seriously couldn't speak for... the last month! I d'led that music pack and OMG! I couldn't do anything else, just had to keep playing and hearing that sweet music! OH! Ear candy! How sweet is your succulent essence! OH! To be struck'd deaf and hear mentally forever your warm embracing trills, your lovingly crafted harmonies, and your awe-inspiring melody! Sonic 2 music pack, you are indeed unparalleled among all sounds! Compared to your splendorous fervor, the voices of angels are that of the nails to a chalkboard.

:disclaimer:(all to late, I fear) Sorry, I just had to poke fun at you guys a bit . [j/k don't be mad :)]Really I haven't tried this, but if I do start playing again, I will.

Cool stuff, ive been waiting for a flac version of the duke64 grabbag for some time, thanks.

Some months ago i ripped the total meltdown (the psx one) in flac if you want i can try to upload it somewhere? (it will be huge though, around 800 mb). Inside the game cd theres 2 or 3 tracks thats already are in .wav, but the rest was in .XA format, i converted those to .wav and then converted everything to flac with max compression, and even with compression 8 the result was around 800 mb. I wonder why even in flac theyre bigger than the game itself haha

I don't know if this has been asked yet, but...

Could somebody perhaps make a La-Mulana music pack?

Title: Re: Music packs!
Post by: Arucard on April 06, 2012, 08:23:23 AM
Any special tracks? And SSCC or SC88 versions?

Mr. Explorer (Guidance Gate music) is kind of a must for the caves, maybe Grand History (Spring in the Sky) for lush.

Title: Re: Music packs!
Post by: Shane on April 06, 2012, 08:52:25 AM
"Mr. Explorer" isn't the Guidance Gate song, it's "Fearless Challenger". "Mr. Explorer" is the surface music (until all eight Guardians are defeated). "Grand History" is in Mausoleum of the Giants, the song for Spring of the Sky is "Curse of Iron Pipe".
SC88:
Fearless Challenger (Guidance Gate song - Cave)
Interstice of the Dimention (Tiamat boss fight song - Boss)
SSCC (if possible):
Aqua Wish (Prototype song that comes with the La Mulana Jukebox - Ice)
(if Aqua Wish can't be used, then Death Game from the Dimensional Corridor)
GIGA-MAGMA (Tower of Ruin - Temple)
Curse of Iron Pipe (Spring in the Sky - Lush)
If the SSCC aren't possible, then SC88 could work as well.

Title: Re: Music packs!
Post by: Arucard on April 07, 2012, 07:21:08 AM
Ah yes, I was just testing you of course  ;D

Well I think the SSCC versions are somewhere on the wiki in MP3 format, so they should be easy. The others may be on Youtube, if so it should be no problem either. Biggest problem with these is how it restarts after each stage, so you hear the opening a ton, but not the rest.

-I forgot the most important part is amplifying before converting, since it seems way too quiet once in-game. Also forgot my half done tribute to boss sounds were in the game when I tested, which was pretty hilarious.

Anyway, these sound ok but realized halfway through the MP3 from the arranged soundtrack is the original files, not midi so they sound a bit different. See what you think, I was gonna add Xelpud or something for the title screen too and changed credits to Earth Wind.
La-Mulana Music first draft (http://www.box.com/s/28b74899103c041ef4a0)

Title: Re: Music packs!
Post by: Shane on April 07, 2012, 09:34:21 AM
Okay, the song for the caves is great, as is the song for the jungle. The ice area's song I almost didn't recognize, but it's fantastic. I almost thought it was a song from another game :)
The temple's song also sounded unfamiliar at first, but after a few seconds I knew that it was the SC88 GIGA-MAGMA. Also, the boss song sounds like it does in Windows Media Player.
For the credits, you could use "Run for the Sun" (starts similar to "Fanfare" but is longer) which plays during La-Mulana's credits, and for the title screen, "La-Mulana."
For a first draft, it's completely amazing. Just a little quiet, but that can be fixed. You just succeeded into making me actually like Fearless Challenger and Curse of Iron Pipe more than Ancient Machine.

Also, I realize that this may seem odd to ask, but would it be possible to make a second La-Mulana music pack so that one can simply rename the "sound" folders to choose which songs they want to have in Spelunky?

Title: Re: Music packs!
Post by: Arucard on April 08, 2012, 07:05:42 AM
You meant to have two complete sound folders? Like one with default music and one with new? You'd have to copy over all the SFX, but that's all it would take if this is what you mean. Also, forgot I zipped the sound folder itself instead of zipping it inside another, just to make it easier to copy over.

Anyway, I'll do some tweaking probably tomorrow, but the MP3's ok instead of SSCC? Bleh, I'll just do both, why not?

Actually, three if not all the La-Mulana songs - including the unused ones. You don't have to do them all, but if you want to, then it would be great. That way, a person could simply rename files to choose which songs to listen to. If it sounds crazy, I understand, because I hit my head this morning :-\

Doing both would take time, although "it increases experience." Which means that it would probably take less time to do the more a person can do so. Some people are like that.

Ah yes, I was just testing you of course ;D
I just noticed that part. Testing somebody who memorized 75 x 75 x 75 x 75 x 75 x 75 usually causes chaos. As far as I'm aware. Also, I memorized most songs from the La-Mulana Jukebox, although I forgot some of their names. Fearless Challenger, Mr Explorer, Grand History, Curse of Iron Pipe, Sacred Tomb, Inferno, Good Night Mom, Maze of Galious - Castle Theme... Numerous of them I remember. Including the Endless Corridor puzzle. And Awaking/Awakening. I can't remember the exact name :(

Well converting all the songs wouldn't be that hard or time consuming. Only takes a few seconds for them to convert. More time is spent tweaking so they are the right volume really. However, I'll probably do two sets, one with the raw MP3s only and one with your suggestions of SSCC and SC88 mix. If anybody else wants to just convert all the songs to ogg, you could easily rename whichever you want to use at the time.

As for 'testing you', yeah I'd been playing recently from itching for the remake and just wrote those from (bad) memory  ;).  Actually furthest I've gotten is finishing Spring in the Sky. Anyway, I should have those up in a bit.

Later that day....
MIDI set (http://www.box.com/s/656dc3284ade7a97af12)

MP3 set (http://www.box.com/s/b39eb09d4c0c69b5208f)

Both contain the same songs, so choose whichever you like better. Just to be thorough there is a file explaining installation and how to switch if you like. In case anyone hasn't done this before.

The Wii remake? Well, from what I've read somewhere, the sixth boss is much, MUCH harder.

A few seconds? Wow, converting any song to ".org" format for a Cave Story mod takes forever and a half (I guess), and doing so from memory doesn't end well. Thanks!

I have the memory of a dried trout ;D! But if I remember the death of my first cat, the first detention I ever got, the date that I left school for good, etc. then I probably have a better memory than I think. I finished the PC La-Mulana within about 12 hours. Those riddles aren't that hard.

I apologize for this double post.
Both of those music packs are *great*.

Now, if I may ask, would it be possible for the alternate music pack consisting of:
Title: "Earth Wind"
Cave: "Spirit of Giants" or "Mother will be awakened" (Shrine of the Mother)
Lush: "Curse of Iron Pipe (Ver .A)" or the song for the "Maze of Galious" secret area
Ice: "ELECTRIC PROPHET" or "Giant's Cry" (Graveyard of the Giants)
Temple: "Crazy Moon" or "Awaking" (True Shrine of the Mother)
Boss: "Good Morning Mom" or "Good Night Mom" (Mother's second to fifth forms)
Credits: "Wonder of the Wonder -Prot Type-" or "Wonder of the Wonder"

Also, apparently the La-Mulana remake will be available for PC as well, someday!
