SOUNDFX pack(not included in main download!)- http://www.mediafire.com/download/nwyk3x6m61oxhl4/SMM_SoundFx.rar

INSTALL INSTRUCTIONS:
Drop contents into your Spelunky/Data folder and
overwrite.
Be sure to backup your Spelunky/Data/Music,
Spelunky/Data/Textures and Spelunky/Data/Localization folders, and Spelunky/Data/Sounds if you are using the soundFX pack.

MOD DESCRIPTION:
Spelunky Metroid Mod alters the graphics, music and text to a Metroid theme. SMM does not(significantly) alter gameplay. Some things are a little different however, for example bats are now a little harder to see, skeletons now look a little different depending on whether they are live or not, etc.. But basically SMM is purely an aesthetic change to Spelunky.

FUTURE PLANS:
There are a few updates I might make in the future when I get around to it(working full time and i'm a dad..) but when I get some time I would like to replace all selectable characters with chars form other series Castlevania, Mario, etc.. And I want make a tracklisting for the new soundtrack. Also I want to finish the other damsels, currently only the female damsel is done and it is also Samus. Why?(Samus rescuing Samus?) because they are both blonde bombshells, why not?

KNOWN ISSUES:
This Mod is Not Perfect! There are many little things that are a bit off with SMM mostly because you cannot really mod the gameplay of Spelunky so there are side effects. For example, Samus' head is on fire in the title screen, Samus' gun and other items don't align properly, etc.. Metroid characters have different proportions than Spelunky characters so things won't be perfect. That being said, Metroid and Spelunky are two completely different games in two different styles so not everything is going to be logical(map stations as tiki traps?) It is like using a piece from one jigsaw puzzle to finish another puzzle. Just think of it all as a strange dream that our Spelunky man is having and try to enjoy it! There may also be cameo's from other games depending on where your adventures take you. And a few items I didn't do anything to like camera, webgun etc.. because reasons. I'm sure other things will come up, let me know if you find anything.

I had no intention of releasing (or even doing this for that matter) it is basically just an experiment that got a little out of hand so take its flaws lightly!

CREDITS:
I did not rip the vast majority of these sprites and they were gathered from various spriters resource pages around the web. However, every sprite has been highly edited to blend into the game. Below are the sites I got images from. It would be extremely tedious and very time consuming to try to go through every single altered sprite to get individual credits but if you think I am using something you have ripped and would like special credit please contact me and I will update the credits.

Thank you Joey4Track!

I can't imagine how much time and effort this took to come to fruition. The Spelunky community is indebted to you!

Finally, all your hard work can be touched by everyone! How does it feel? You know... knowing that everyone's going to touch it now... this didn't just get weird did it?  :'(

Haha, nice edit. Anyway, yeah I don't know what mod you were talking about that you did but tbh my mod was just an experiment. It was going ok so I thought to send Baer a message to try it and that's that. Don't take offense! I wasn't even planning on finishing it but after Baer did his video there was a bunch of articles written about it so I figured I had to finish. That's why it's not perfect. It's pretty tough to change the entire game, I def put a lot of work into it but I can't please everyone. This is all just for fun! Take it easy yeah?

Edited my post because I realized I was being a jealous asshole. So I apologize.

It's cool. Just glad people are modding this game. Hope more mods are on the way.

I just want to say thank you so much for this mod! It is friggin awesome all the work you have done, and it really does feel very metroidy.

I've compiled a list of which Metroid music I am currently using, if you are interested you can see the list below, and a link for downloading this mix;

https://www.dropbox.com/s/r93flyqpfzm25dr/MrBSpelunkyMetroidRemix.zip (https://www.dropbox.com/s/r93flyqpfzm25dr/MrBSpelunkyMetroidRemix.zip)

Original message;

I don't want to seem too crazy with feedback, but I've been mulling over the soundtrack, and in the end I replaced some of the .ogg's with my own music selection, thought you might be interested which ones I've picked and why.

The big changes are;

- Making all of the egg tracks into Metroid 1/2 tracks (8 bit style)
- Making the rest from the 2D/16bit era (Super Metroid, Fusion, Zero Mission)
- Giving 7 different shop themes as opposed to 1 (although in some cases this isn't that great, Metroid doesn't do brothel music...)
- The ones I think work really well are the jungle selections, some of the temple ones. I really like the SM Norfair Ridleys Hideout theme for Hell, it reminds me of MP1 magmoor caverns (because it's a cover obviously).

A lot of the changes are semantic/superficial, but I thought I would share this if you were interested :)

Keep up the good work!

Cheers,
MrBlack

Hey thanks a lot! Glad you like it. Well I did spend a lot of time on the music so I won't be changing anything(except I think I need to replace the egg track for the temple and upload a patch soon) but feel free to upload your own remix if you like for sure :)

I agree, mediafire is a much better download service thing than dropbox. Or at least use it as a mirror.

Sorry bout that. OP fixed with a mediafire link and also a minor update fixing the sprites of the Yeti and I also missed a song in the temple as well so I fixed that too.

I just wanted to extend another layer of appreciation for the metroid mod, did a hell run through the haunted castle, worm and ufo, you really outdid yourself here.  I would really like to see mod support added for spelunky, mods like this one really showcase owning the pc version.  Again, thank you, I love it!

Mini update: SoundFX pack added. OP edited with link.

This adds just a few iconic sound effects from Metroid to the game. Not a whole lot has been changed but it's enough give a more authentic Metroid experience imo. Enjoy!

Well you hit here too. That's a permaban in order I guess. I dunno, I'm not a mod.
