Title: Modding new stages in, when the source is out?
Post by: The-Imp on September 04, 2009, 08:38:38 AM
Anyone gonna give this a shot? I'll probably try to create some new enemies, maybe even some items/events...

So, when the source comes out, will you try to do anything to the game?

I shall turn the maiden into a companion cube.

I really want to see some more costumes, specifically a Lemezza green jacket/hat. For some reason I always really like the idea of changing the look of the character. I could make sprite sheets, but not really talented in that department.  :(

I want to make a co-op mode.

I'm thinking of adding
-A few more zones
-An 'infinite' cycle where it cycles through the zones, with different extras from normal play like...
-A vault, where you can buy/steal laser weapons
-A bank, difficult to rob but worth it (You could also store money and access it different games.

I, for one, will stick to vanilla spelunky.

I'm probably going to try my hand at making new weapons by editing existing ones - the pistol code could probably easily be converted to be a machine gun :D. Also floor spike traps.

Hopefully there will end up being a 'feature creep' distribution that intergrates all of these smaller edits together.

I'd like to see if it is possible to have a single, never-ending, constantly-generated level with no exit (and no ghost, obviously).

Would be cool for competitions to see how deep people can get.

What about branching stages instead of straight out adding stages to it?

So at the end of level 4 (or maybe during the "between stages" animation), you can choose to go to either the jungle or some new stage?

I just can't get past how awesome that is.

I wasn't joking, I'll post the spritesheet/modded game if I get it finished.  ;D

What less could we possibly expect than a round trip through several dozens of levels to retrieve the Amulet of Yendor? :P

Yes, creating even a fraction of Nethack into Spelunky would requite insane amounts of work. But then again modders tend to amaze me time after time after time :)

Lol, actually it'd be great if a bunch of people just focused on remaking stuff from regular rougelikes. I for one would love to see DoomRL style random special exits.

Dear god....
What if someone made PortalRL with the spelunky code?

Tempting...

This must be done! Portals probably wouldn't be too hard to implement, the issue is they'd only be useful with mouse aim and making levels with portal - style puzzles generate would be difficult.

IT SHALL BE DONE!
(I have waaaaayyy to many ideas for spelunky modding...)

Because of the way the level editor works, I thought it would be interesting to see a "classic" version played with the old symbols and such. Note I say "interesting", not necessarily "good", but it came to mind when I first saw a custom level posted.

Just thought of an idea: Super Maro Spelunky.

Really I just want to make Bullet Bills and uber shells to throw at stuff XD

That's actually a reasonable idea. I tried modding in a sprint-to-highjump feature, but didn't do too well.

You tried moding before the code is out? You used that game maker steal code thing didn't you!

Well duh, what else am I supposed to do? Besides, knowing how the code is structured will give me a slight advantage when the source is released.

And I discovered an unused basketball in the game. It's even dribbled when held.

Ive decided on a hl2 rl instead of portal. Because Gordan Freeman is so badass. even moreso than chuck norris.

I say for the mario mod, it may just be easiest to simply change the sprites.
ie:
Spelunker is Mario
Damsel is Peach
Shopkeeper is... one of Bowser's goons? It's hard to see any other character as such
Which means: Shotgun is actually that wand that shoots magic
Bullet Bill shooting arrow traps
Rocks become shells
Snakes are Goombas
Bats are those weird green bat things in the cave levels

Hmm, but it would be nice to code in some other objects. Like mario style cape (with flying! Eesh, that'd be hard) and fire flowers.

I could keep going...

You actually making this? Oh, and no freakin way, Norris don't need a protective suit and crowbar!

Yus I am
Gordan Freeman is the 2nd most badass guy of all time. The first it Gf's bro, John Freeman. Chuck is 3rd.

I though Gordon's brother was Morgan Freeman, from that whatchacallit mod. Sorry, really can't remember the name, something "day" I think. But you have to add a level where you're forced to fight Chuck hand to hand now!
