Title: New Halloween Level (Ed+)
Post by: Urza on October 24, 2012, 06:17:53 PM
I have added another level to this set, as is the tradition. The new level has more of an arcade feel, but like the others, it's dark and uses lots of magic signs. Not so much on the randomization though.

DOWNLOAD (http://spelunkylevels.tyr-net.net/?do=showlevel:120)

This includes all thee levels, you can play them individually or as a set.

Note that these are ASCII levels, if your version of Editor Plus was made for the other kind, you'll have to convert them using notepad. They also play well in Spelunky Natural.

I DLed, and the new level seems pretty cool (even though I always die really fast).

Whenever I try to play any level with magic signs, I get error messages.  The 2nd level pretty much just falls apart completely as soon as I start it.  With the first level it's hard to tell.  I can't find the exit or any clues but at least nothing falls apart.
I have the latest version of level editor plus, do these levels require anything else?

I suspect you don't have the latest version of Editor Plus, and are either trying to play in the original Magic Signs (which lacks support for Editor Plus's tiles) or in an older version of Editor Plus (which lacks support for Magic Signs).

So go get the newest version of Ediot Plus HERE (http://mossmouth.com/forums/index.php?topic=631.0).

I redownloaded the newest one and both .exe files say last modified 7/27/2012.  So I tried the older Editor plus, and it has magic signs enabled.  So I guess the fan update doesn't have magic signs enabled, and the editor plus that has magic signs doesn't have the stuff from the fan update...  oh well.

[EDIT: after poking around a bit, it seems I don't lose much by dropping the fan update.  Checked the fan update changes list and I see that the only change is a better interface.  I can live with losing that.  Still, I hope someone combines them in the next update...]

Okay Moloch how did you even do that? Or why would you even edit signs?

I made pretty sure to preserve Magic Signs in the transition with all the new unicode stuff. I'm also quite capable of messing things up. I'll check it out this weekend. :(

I missed some unicode somewhere in the conversion to 8.1. Stuff doesn't load properly.
The previous version of the fan update loads levels correctly. Updated post with links to working version. (http://mossmouth.com/forums/index.php?topic=631.msg56903)
Please delete the 7/27/2012 fan update. The working fan update will be 6/6/2012.  Sorry for the confffffffuuuuuuuuuuuusion!!

My playthrough:

I liked the red skeletons, unfortunately no footage of their surprise in the video.

Very cool. Thanks for posting this. The death compilation was a perfect way to end it too, I almost literally LOL'd.

Glad you enjoyed those, because most of them were such stupid deaths they probably look like I was doing it on purpose.

Is there ghosts in these levels? Blaze the ghost would be happy to join them too.

No ghost in the new level. One of the earlier ones has a ghost though.

Okay.

I actually fear the Spelunky Ghost, so I think it is good for me.

Edit: And hey, the download link isn't working for me. Shouldn't the link be this?: http://spelunkylevels.tyr-net.net/?do=showlevel:120

Oh shoot. Yes it should. As you can see, just I bumped last year's thread. I forgot it still linked to the .tk address. Fixed it now.

I wonder why was the address changed. Gave me enough trouble to figure out how to fix the links to levels using that database.

The .tk domain is one of those free ones, but it has a nasty habit of breaking when you least expect it. I think TyrOvC said it got falsely reported as spam or something.

Got taken down for a "copyright" violation and contesting it failed. (Guessing it was actually because it got too popular and the registry took it back to profit off of an ad filled landing page :/ )

If I could go back in time and drill "you get what you pay for" into my past self to prevent the link breakage I would.
